Well that's funny, even though English isn't my fist language, it never crossed my mind that there could be a princely whale!

Sorry for the confusion Mike. The ‘Prince of Wales’ grip was named for the style of grip preferred by Queen Victoria’s son, the Prince of Wales in the late 1800’s. The style continues today and the name stuck with it. The current Prince of Wales of course is Prince William who succeeded to this title when his Father Prince Charles recently became King. The Prince of Wales is traditionally the next in line and heir apparent to the British throne. The term ‘Prince of Whales’ is often mistakenly applied to this grip style by people who are either too ignorant or too lazy to know the difference.
