Thinking of ordering a Boyd stock to fit my Sako in 7 mm Rem. They claim it won't fit a magnum action, but I'm thinking mine is just a regular length. Unfortunately, the gun is at the smiths and I can't measure the distance between the action crews. Thanks.

Call the 'smith. He can measure them. :)

Actually, delving deeper, it gets a little more complicated than that. ;) Boyds stock is made for the early Sakos built on FN Mauser actions. Apparently, Howa made Weatherby Vanguards are almost identical and a stock made for them should fit. Anybody try that ?

In the 80's Sako started calling the L61R Finnbear action the AV. So, under Boyds list, your looking at the wrong stock. There are some differences in the tang though. Found this on Sako Collectors...

The stock inletting for both the L61R and A-III are identical, despite small differences in the bolt shroud and perhaps the shape of the bolt handle. The bedding for both actions is identical to the A-V except that the A-V has a longer tang (the metal where the rear action screw seats just behind the bolt). An L61-R or A-III stock can be adapted to the A-V by inletting a bit of wood for the longer tang; A stock for an A-V can be adapted to the L61R or A-III by filling (or not, I suppose) the extra inletting for the longer A-V tang. Stocks for all calibers are identical.
