Im thinking about putting the boyds American plainsman setup in walnut on my 870. Anyone have any experienced pros or cons? The 870 will continue to be used for clay, ducks, gease, coyotes, you name it. I can't find much for reviews online. Thanks.

I just put one on mine. It looks good and I prefer it to the OEM stock. It feels and balances better. I did have to put a spacer in for the bolt that holds the rear stock onto the gun as the stock bolt was too long for the Boyds stock as it seems to be drilled deeper than the Remington stock. If you haven't done it yet go ahead you will like the results.

I like them... I have two sets on two 870's... the forest lam you see in the pic and a nutmeg lam set. They are very solid, shoulder nicely and have a great finish.

I have the American plainsman on my remington 7400 and they are the exact same butstock as the 870 and I love it.It so much nicer looking, feeling and pulls up way nicer. As dumpdog said, the original stock bolt is about 3" too little long though.

Have you had a look at the ATI stocks??

No offense, but my informed personal opinion is that ATI products, except the laminated stocks that they have made for them, SUCK!!! I literally through two new stocks in the trash bin... I didn't even feel right about selling that sh!t to another shooter...
