Hey all,

Can anyone tell me if the Boyd's JRS Mauser 98 LG RG model would be a direct drop-in for a FN Mauser action and floorplate? I understand that a guy will have to do a little bit of fitting and tinkering regardless, but are will all the major screw holes and inletting all match up?

Oh and what does Virtual Inleet Part (VIP) mean on their website?

Thanks -Cameron

Given the myriad 98 Mauser type rifles that have been made over the last 110 years, the only way a stock would be "drop in" is if the inletting is very, very generous. Their VIP term suggests that minimal fitting will be necessary.
You will in all likelihood have to alter the stock to fit your barrelled action, including, but not limited to the trigger mechanism, bolt handle and barrel contour.

other than the barrel channel, the only problem is that your FN98 bottom metal is too short at the front tang, ahead of the front guard screw by about 3/16th of an inch, as they are inletted for M98 bottom metal Functionally, it won;t matter and you can fill it in with bedding compound or with a piece of matching wood.

the other problem is that for some reason Boyds makes their M98 stocks almost 3/8th of an inch too deep, and you either have to sink the barreleed action deeper and lower the top edge, or do the same with the bottom metal.
