I'm thinking of replacing the wood stock on my Savage 22-250 (sporter weight) with a Boyd laminated JRS. I'm know I have to keep my order under $100 so the unfinished model is the only option. How's their "virtual inlet"? Does it only require to be glass bedded and the exterior finished? Or does it require some fiting and heavy duty sanding? I remember someone posting a Savage in a pepper laminated not too long ago but I can't find the picture anymore, it looked pretty good.

boyd stock

I have 2 of the Boyd's stocks and I got lucky and they dropped right in no problems. :dancingbanana: All I had to do was put a shim under the trigger guard to get the right height so the trigger guard was level with the wood.:D
 
When ordering from Numrich recently I was told that the limit for Canadian orders is $500, not $100 as I had previously thought. Haven't tried it though.
 
I went ahead and ordered one in pepper laminated. It's on back order and I'm looking at about two months, that's fine, I'm not in a hurry. The popularity of the inexpensive Steven's and their cheap plastic stock must be good for their business, I don't think they had model in stock for the Savage/Stevens! Thanks for the info.
 
Is your 22-250 a single shot, internal mag, or detachable mag?

I put one on my stevens 7-08. My dad took a little material off of it so it fit properly.

Also, we had to play around with the internal mag spring. The bolt wouldnt grab the bullets when I had 4 in it. After some monkeying around, we got it to work properly.

Mine came in the unfinished version. I used 4 coats of tru oil to give it the glossy look. It really brought out the depth of color in the grain. Each coat was applied then allowed to dry for 12 or so hours. Do not put too much on at first! A little is better than a lot, use it sparingly.

When ordering for the stevens, model 10 is a short action and model 110 is the long action.(same savage actions) They are interchangeable with the savage, if you guys were unaware of this.

I always thought it was a 100 dollar limit, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Powder Burner. After some digging I found your posts about yours. It turned out very nice. Mine is a Savage .22-250 long action blind mag, just before Savage started making short action. I'll also order a metal trigger guard from Brownell to replace the plastic one that I'm always afraid to crack when I torque it.

I was told the same thing and received mine 7 months later. make sure you ask when the production list/ date will be.

Just exercise a little patience and phone them lots to make sure you order is being handled properly ( I would even call after a month to make sure its on the list). I know others on this board who called to check and it didnt get entered into their system.
 
Well, after only 9 1/2 months, I got my Boyds stock today. They originaly told me 8-12 weeks but when the months went by I figured they must have lost my order. I didn't realy care as it was kind of an impulse by anyway. A couple days ago I saw a new charge on my credit card and shortly after a Canada Post slip at my door. I picked it up today. Looks pretty good, fits nicely, shouldn't be too hard to get a proper fit. Tru oil seems to be a nice and easy way to finish those Boyds but I'm looking more for a low gloss finish. Can you just buff the finish with fine steel wool to dull it down?
 
I was in the same waiting boat as you :( I ordered a JRS and a target varmiter back around march. The varmiter was sent out in june only to have Customs seize it because there paperwork was not up to snuff:eek:
well got the JRS a week or so ago and the Varmit is on the way.

Looks like that was the Last VIP stocks for the stevens/savage :( I was told they will only be stocking the finished version now :(

I ordered a stock from Boyds back in March, and they shipped it right on schedule. Trouble was US customs jumped on it. Anyway, they finally cleared things up and it arrived yesterday afternoon. It's for a Wby. Vangaurd l.a., and the fit was near perfect. A little work with Mr. Dremel, a clean up with progressively finer sandpaper, and after about 4 and a half hours of pleasure while watching tv the first coat of finish was applied. It looks great and is smooth as a baby's bum.
Boyds people were great to deal with all the way. They kept me informed, and when I called or e-mailed with questions they answered promptly, which seems to be a rarity these days. The company gets a triple A five star rating from me.

Boyds BTW are cutting down on the number of stocks they make and stockpile.

I thought rifle stocks were merely carved wood,I didn't have any questions on the one I got from Richards.
