13 Days ago I ordered an M14 from Dark, after getting off the phone with him I called boyds and they had 2 reject stocks left, I bought the one with 2 knots in it. It arrived today, but I'm still waiting for the M14. The stock is much better than I imagined it would be, it has 2 knots that I can see, one quite small and a larger one on the left side of the butt. The total cost was $45 for the stock and $25 shipping, no taxes or brokerage.

Just a heads up regarding the fit of the Norc M14 stock metal work....

You might have to file a bit of wood here and there (around the receiver mortises / pillars) to get that Norinco M14 stock liner to fit.

The buttplate will fit nicely. The front stock ferrule might need some prying (carefully) with a flat bladed screw driver.

The sling plate in front will need to have the rivets drilled out. Then re-install the sling swivel plate with some Industrial finish (looks parkerized) # 10 x 24 tpi X 3/16" or 5/16" long screws from Home Depot. Allen head of course. :D

If you need some, let me know, I always have spares in my tool box.

Keep us posted how the project comes along.

I was just on the site. Am I missing something or has Boyd's stop manfacturing stocks for the M1A/M14?? Except for those seconds, there are no laminant stocks, walnut stocks, nothing. No M1 Carbine stocks anymore either.

***EDIT***
Nevermind, I just saw Wally's post about the NM stocks from Boyd's and how they are stopping all production on alot of stocks namely the M1A.

Thanks for the advise Hungry, I'm going to destroy the mystery wood stock if necessary. On a different note, a friend of mine gave me a scope mount today for the M14. He says it an original Springfield mount but it only a one point mount, are these any good?

Hungry here: At the risk of hijacking this thread (towards scope mounts), I will merely edit your thread with an answer of some sort. "You get what you pay for," rings true here. In their day, they worked reasonably well, but I would temper the adjectives "reasonably well" very carefully.

Personally if I was testing loads, then I would use a single point mount (knowing what I know now). That's it. If I had to rely on this boomstick then it's gonna be an ARMS # 18 or Smith Ent. 2024 and nothing else... but that's what I've learned over 20 years with this family of boomsticks. How prepared are you to carry out serious testing when other variables might interfere with your research (example: scope rings, scope quality, handload consistency, stability of mount, good screw on mount, quality receiver geometry) ??

I got my M14 in the mail today, I'm very happy with it. I had asked Rodger to get me one with the barrel indexed properly as my last one the front sight was off center. This one looks really good, Rodger came through for me.

I haven't got that far yet.Edit, I used some circlip pliers and they came out easily. One of the screws in the butt wouldn't come out and I had to drill it. I should have just chopped open the stock, now I damaged the metal butt plate and I need the long screw that attaches to the rear sling swivel.

Ferrule on Boyd's stock...

I used the same devcon epoxy i filled the spring guide retaining pin cutout with to glue the norc ferrule onto the new stock. I didnt bother to re-crimp it. Works great. I'll see if I can post a pic....
