I have a new to me 93R17 FV that I am looking at getting a Boyd's stock for. I am wondering how to tell if I have the "E" type receiver or not. The bottom plate for the magazine area is metal, the trigger guard is plastic as part of the stock. I understand from reading most of the threads on these guns I need to order the metal trigger guard and a longer screw from Savage, but I am just wondering about the inletting I would be doing for the action?

you should not need to do anything, it should fit just nicely....I did nothing to mine, it dropped in just perfectly, ordered the metal parts right from savage, worked out perfect

The rifle posted above is not the E-receiver. The extra 3" barrel shank on the rifle is of the older action type. If yours is new, and does not have the long shank, you should be good. A friend recently ordered a new E-reciever stock for the older style action, and the shank inlet needed to be relieved for proper fit.
