Anybody put a Boyds thumbhole stock on their mosin nagant? I was just about to order one and thought I should see what I hear first. How did it fit. And it is $99 for the stock, but how much did it end up being in the end.... thanks

I put an M38 in a boyd's classic pepper stock. It took some work to get it properly inletted.

I used a drum sanding kit that had different sized drums in order to make room for the rear sight assembly. A bunch of these guys in different sizes:

Chisels were used to give the interrupter and ejector enough room to function properly. I also had to remove some material from the back end of the magazine body/triggerguard cut-out to elongate it enough that the riifle would seat properly.

It balances very nicely and aims off-hand with no effort in hefting the front end. The ergonomics really make the trigger easier to control and the recoil pad is a treat. Makes plinking a bruise-free experience :)

Can post a pic of the gun if you'd like.

-edit-
Price was $135.90 delivered

Thanks Bowyer. . sounds good to me... I think I even have a set of drum sanders in the garage. I'll just have to take my time. My wood working skills are mostly limited to skilsaws, drills, and chainsaws...... and I'd love to see a pic....

Well, I pulled out the credit card...... $150 to Ontario.... Ordered the nutmeg stock. Hope I dont get nailed duty, tax's etc on top... Now I need to pick which rifle gets it..

wd113, it shouldn't cost any more than what you paid when you ordered. Mine didn't, and it cleared customs without a hitch. A little bit of money for sure, but well worth it.

Not the best pic but here it is anyway:

Thats pretty sharp.

Yeah, that pic doesn't really do it justice

I took a few more just now. Wanted to show it front-to-back and some of the places where material needed to be removed

The stock wasn't cut out for a rear sight assembly at all, so that took some careful work to keep it square and symetrical

There was no room for the interrupter either, so that had to be cut out. I followed the angle to keep it clean and with a minimal gap

Man, that war-time machining is rough. And yet the action is slick and effortless

Properly done, the Boyds stock really does give the Mosin a whole new look and feel - for the better afaic.

Anyone try Bluegrass stocks for the Mosin yet? [bg-gunstocks.com/]

They've got tactical and sporter stocks all drilled up for Timneys and pillars.

In communication with them, they seem very open to the Canadian market. I've been humming and hawing for a while, but haven't yet pulled the trigger.

Those Archangels look cool, but so do these. And they're not quite as expensive.

Awesome cat to deal with but don't expect it to be quick to get one. As he gets to them when he gets free time.
