Boyd's Stocks?

I bought a Boyd’s JRS Classic VIP in nutmeg laminate for a Yugo M48 that has a buggered stock last year. I had to wait a few months for the production run, and when I finally received my stock I could see that the inletting for the action was badly canted (basically, there was no way the barreled action could ever fit their stock)
I took some digital pictures and contacted customer service with my problem. They replaced my stock (although I had to wait again) but I was stuck with the cost of shipping it back to them. I wrote on the return form how it would be nice to have a thicker recoil pad as the one supplied with the rifle is rather thin. They sent me a stock back that had a thicker forearm but still with the flimsy pad. You’d think they would try to please a customer who had been stuck with a faulty product that never should have made it past quality control.
I like the; look, strength, and stability of laminate stocks, but I wish there was a better option that Boyd’s. The first stock they sent me actually had nicer grain that the replacement. I hate to see an otherwise good product wasted on account of carelessness.

Late last year I bought a LH Rem 700 BDL in .30-06. I quickly ordered a McMillan fiberglass stock to replace the crappy factory wood. It will cost me a small fortune but they are guaranteed for life.

I'd say so!

Boyd's seems to only recommend the application of a poly satin finish to their laminate stocks but I like how your's looks. I was thinking about mixing 50/50 tung oil and mineral spirits and applying it to mine for the first few coats and then finishing up by rubbing in 100% tung oil for about 5 - 6 more coats. After that was all dried, then I’d apply a satin poly finish. I’m glad to see how it looks with a darker stain. Did you use a medium walnut stain by any chance?

Drill out the old one if need be. Drill from the inside of teh rivet, buy some small screws and fix nuts to place into the new stock. Be aware that some trimming of the screws might be necessary because you don't want it interferring with the gas cyl.

I have to admit that I did a computor start up i.e. what I thought was best without the manual! I simply oiled the stock about 4 or 5 times! 100% BLO.

Well, it looks nice anyways! I think I prefer the darker look, it will probably allow for better camouflage while hunting. Now I see why Boyd's only reccommends a satin poly finish, it doesn't take much to darken them up.
 
I didnt even bother sanding the outside as I thought I had expended far too much energy on the barrel channel!
