As the season is winding down winter projects are coming to mind. I've got a Weatherby MkV sitting in the safe that has been a queen for 10 years now. The wood is too pretty to haul around the woods so I was thinking of restocking with a Boyds. I've got a couple of questions for anyone who has done similar.

1) Is Boyds a solid outfit to deal with ?
2) I could only find listings for Vanguards on their site. Will they fit the Mk V ?
3) Prices seem very reasonable so is there a lot of fussy inletting work to do ?

Thanks for your help

I have purchased, fitted, bedded, pillared and finished quite a few Boyd's stocks. Enough that I get regular emails from them. To answer your questions:

1. Yes, Boyd's is solid. They once forgot to send me the stock and lost my Visa number. They send me the stock that I had ordered free of charge.

2. That is something you have to ask them. You can always purchase an un-inleted stock and have someone with a replicator inlet it. I'm currently in the process of building my own replicator.

3. The inleting is very easy, so long as you don't have two left thumbs. The biggest job that I had to do once is to fit a bull barrel into a sporter stock. But that was easily accomplished with a broom handle and coarse sandpaper.

The finish on the Boyd's stock is far better than that of Richard's Microfit as an example. A lot less work to get a finely finished product. If you're going to pillar your action, you need to be careful in drilling out the laminate stock, use a drill press, not a hand held drill....ask me how I know ;)

A stock for a vanguard won't fit a Mkv.
Wholsale sports is selling Bell and Carlson synthetic stocks, they might have one for a Mkv.

they did have a mrk V inlet before.i ordered one from them then a few days latere i was called saying they couldnt ship it because it was over $100. as we speak i have a rem 700 LA on its way.this one came in under $100 BEFORE SHIPPING. everything looks on the straight and narrow so fare

I purchased a nice laminate stock from Boyds that the barreled action on my Marlin XS7 just dropped into perfectly. The inletting around the bolt handle was a tad generous at the rear, but other than that a very nice stock with fine satin finish. They will ship to Canada as long as the base price of the stock does not exceed $100. My order was shipped the next day and I got it no problem in the mail a few days later.

As stated here, Boyd's is a reliable outfit with which to do business. However, before you decide to order, check the Elwood Epps website in the "This'n'That" section, under the heading "stocks". The last few times that I looked, they had one or two MarkV stocks listed. Maybe you could use one of them.
