Boyds Tacticool Stock No Longer Exportable

here is the reply I got from Boyds questioning this decision

Because of the name "Tacticool" it is too closely related to a Tactical gun part and the States Department has put the brakes on it leaving the country.

We are working to work out the kinks in this situation.

We apologize for the inconvenience and assure you were striving to get you, our customers, the parts you desire.

Thanks for your interest!

Funny thing is I talked to a suplier of rifle parts today who said the department of homeland security recently visited their facility and told them that they are to immediately cease all exportation of product outside of the lower 48. As I was told they were not even able to ship their stuf to Alaska or Hawaii for fear of them falling into unwanted hands. What kinda bs is that. The US is the only NATO country that doesn't adhear to the original trade agreement of 1947. They like to make the rules up as they go along. I figured even if I was gonna build a restricted gun it would take so long to get all the parts to do so I'd have to leave detailed instructions for my grand kids to finish the work. Don't they have bbigger issues to deal with like maybe making sure kids have a roof over their heads.

Are you serious? For the love of Christ. The Dept. of homeland security should be disbanded IMO.... they have gone completely NUTS! I've always loved the American people, and have MANY American friends, But ive got a new, deeper dis-liking for their administration, its more of a hatred..... (OMG! I hope the American Big Bro doesn't see this, i could be categorized a terrorist!)... on that note, they are painfully close to being terrorist's themselves, IMO.....:(

Not that Boyd's is reading this thread...but if they reduced the length by 1/4" and called it a "Black Sporter Stock" or something similar, it would probably be something the Homeland Security (Dept. of paranoia) would have to visit them/contact them about somewhere down the road.

Plan B~call them a "stock kit" and sell them un-finished.

Anyway you slice it, I've yet to hear any backlash from manufacturers down there. They might be, just haven't heard/read anything. They might be scared to...or maybe it speaks to how small the Canadian market is.

They could call it anything else, and it would be OK? Wow.

There is a guy that is already duplicating most of boyds stuff, he's on the rimfire central forum. I was going to get him to do a Dakota Will for me when I come up with the wood.

Makes me angry. Screw one of your best allies with utterly senseless restrictions in the name of "Homeland Defense" but they will gladly use our soldiers/military for the combat actions going on 'over there'. Wow, our county needs more friends like that.

Seems to me the time is ripe for someone in Canada with a CNC machine to start making some serious coin...anybody up for this?? I suspect there'd be a ton of business, just on Savage MkII & Ruger 10/22's alone...

We need some local talent to start making these items.

I am thinking that a stock duplicator might be a good investment at this point.

So if they can't export them would any kind of trademark apply if someone reproduced them here?

The only thing that could be trademarked would be the name "Tacticool" and that is apparently what is causing the troubles at this point.

DHS shouldn't be disbanded, they should all be arrested and tried on treason or sedition charges. They violate huge chunks of the constitution every day they are in existence. This will never happen because of the unchecked power the president gets from this type of organization.

Actually, Alan Rock and the Liberal Party are the ones who screwed us with the ITAR regs.

Based on an earlier comment in this thread, I called Savage and asked about buying a TR stock + trigger guard + magazine plate + stock screws + action screws. Total price quoted was $223 USD shipped to Canada ($173 for the stock alone). They didn't mention any issues/concerns shipping internationally.

Because of Boyds $100 order limit, the TactiCool + trigger guard + magazine plate + stock screws + action screws would have to be shipped as 2 orders at about $40 per order. I figured it was going to be about $200 USD when the dust settled for the TactiCool stock.

I have a 4' X 8' CNC router and looked into making rifle stocks from laminated wood. Purchasing the wood blanks from the U.S. would cost more per stock than Boyd's charges for a finished stock.

Just for that???????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!

...makes just about as much sense as how most of our firearms laws were made.

I know a guy with a $150,000.00 CNC router in is garage he's a master programmer/machinist but without interest in guns :(

But is he interested in money from people interested in guns?

Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but all the Savage rimfires (at least all the bolt-actions and semis - I don't know about the Stevens Favorite) are made in Canada after Savage bought Lakefield. Wouldn't that require that Savage ship all the stocks up to Ontario for production?

Because otherwise, they'd need to take the extra step of shipping barrelled actions down to their US plant to mate up with the offensive stocks. (The TRR stock? Really?!)

You're right. My understanding is that the Boyd's Tacticool stocks are sent to Savage in Canada for assembly onto the TR (and other) MkII/93 models.

I suppose that will probably continue, as they're not labeled as "Tacticool", but rather as "MkII TR" etc. stocks.

I'm sure one could order a TR stock from Savage (I got some parts from them for my home-made TR build, and they were very helpful). When I got my Tacticool, the total cost was $135.90 including shipping to my door. I didn't order the bottom metal, as it would have had to go on a separate order anyway (I ordered the screws & trigger guard from Savage, and made the bottom plate myself).

Although it would cost more to get the stock from Savage, they should at least still be available in Canada that way. Makes you wonder that if Boyd's changed the name to "TR" instead of Tacticool", maybe they'd be allowed to ship 'em again? Or go all the way, and change the name to "cute cuddly kitten bunny hugs":D
