I ordered a Walnut M1A stock yesterday from Boyd’s.
I placed the order with Dorothy. She said that she hopes Boyd’s will be making more M1A stocks in the future, but there are no guarantees...
Dorothy said they were always a good seller and that was and is the problem!! they could not keep up with the demand, so nobody was happy.....
Any way along with the stock I ordered a pepper laminated handguard, why you ask, well they are out of walnut, so I thought of nutmeg, but then I thought why not make my rifle stand out, might look stupid but at least I will know my rifle!!!
On a related topic I want to make a cheek rest out of the same pepper laminated wood, kind of like a Lee Enfield sniper. So the cheek rest will match the handguard on the walnut stock.
Will I have a hard time finding pepper laminated wood in Edmonton?
I love this addiction……………..
Have a great weekend,

Cool. I hope they resume production. I'd really like a pepper laminate stock. I kinda suspect you are going to have some challenge finding a premade piece of pepper laminate to made a cheek piece out of. Who knows where Boyd's gets theirs, or if its custom made for them. There are leather or black nylon lace on cheek rests, if that's an option.

That seems like sort of a stupid comment. The people who got stocks would be happy, the people (Boyd's) cashing the checks for those stocks would be happy. The only people unhappy would be those who couldn't get one because they couldn't keep up with demand. That is the perfect situation to be in as a business, not a reason to stop making them.

Its seems they are a victim of their own success, and have been reducing the number of product lines as a result. I recently got a Target / Varminter from them, but I notice its no longer listed as a stock they make. I quess if you don't want to keep expanding, the thing to do when you get more orders than you can handle is to reduce the variety. Someone talked to them and they said they will resume production once they sense a demand. Maybe they need to get though the 6 months of backorders. Most of what they sell is custom and not off the shelf of a warehouse.

On the US m14/M1a rifle sites they are saying buy the boyds stocks because the canadians are buying them all. They also say that boyds has a "contract' to make them and will stop selling to complete the"contract".
