I see lots of guys order up the laminates (myself included). Anybody ever picked up one of their walnuts? What is the quality like of the wood?Pics to share?

That's the thing with Boyd's walnut... it is generally plain straight grain... @ $99 for a finished walnut stock, you would have to have alot of nerve to expect more... despite this, they are quite nice... to dress them up, select the custom options and add a bubinga cap and tip, laser etching and a Pachmyr pad...

The one on the bottom is walnut. I bought it five years ago, on sale for $69.00 U.S. Since then it has had ten coats of Tru Oil applied to it. It also fit perfect when everything was added. Haven`'t seen it on sale that cheap since.
Hope this helps.

I have 2 on order and hopefully they will show up this week. One is for my B-mag and the other is for my Savage 116. I went with the pepper colour because I like that dark look, and wanted something different then just a plain wood stock.

I ordered a Ruger 44 Carbine Walnut, a year ago now....it needed considerable fitting, I eventually took it to Fred Hamm who made it look like an original. On receiving the stock, it was bulky, and had duplicating scars on it. It was supposedly "Ready to apply finish"

Its grade one walnut so not really fancy. Go look at any new savage rifle with walnut that will be a boyds stock on it. My model 14 has one.

Sigh... It's still an improvement and there is two grades of claro X and XX as well as the standard walnut. Of course it's not super fancy, if you want real fancy go look at Prophet River's blanks...

As to the Savage's - I'm not looking at that company's rifles until they address their lack of service up here. And yes I do own one.
