One of the guys at the range gave me this today ~ kinda beat up, but neat nonetheless...

Looks kinda like a longbranch mark there on the front, hard to say though, almost looks hand painted.

Also looks like there was a bracket at the top that had been removed.

Think anyone would be pissed off if I cleaned it up and used it to cart ammo around? [I don't think it's collectible.]

I'm sure it is collectable, to the right guy.
Dont go all bubba with it, they arent making any more.

Ha! ... yes, I suppose so, you do have a point there.

All I was thinking was some simple green & CLR to get rid of the active rust.

Anyone with a Boys 20mm AT Rifle would love it.

Leave it alone and don't mess with it. Don't restore it or you will only have a freshly painted metal box with little if any value.

The mark on it isn't Long Branch. I is a Broad Arrow inside of a C, which designates Canada as well as a few other things.

On crates that size, the stencils were sometimes sloppy or moved when the painter swabbed a bit to wet or didn't take care.

I would happily trade it for the rifle :)

Very nice box, I would not paint, clean or scrap this box as its appearance reflects its long life and good luck at avoiding bubba somewhere along the journey

Err, the Boys was .55 inch, not 20mm.

Yep. Fired a few .55 Cal. but, considering the recoil, would not even think about a 20 mm version if one had been made. Now, the Lahti was a different kettle of fish, and not bad at all.

The Magazine Box is a bit scarce, and not an item you usually find. A tasteful restoration would be in order.

the boys is not 20mm its .55 boys this would hold extra mags now if it was full of mags you would e sitting on a good bit of money $500 a piece is about right

Mags regularly sell in the US for up to $150 each. I managed to finally fill my magazine chest at only $65 each by buying in bulk off gunbroker.

The boxes are somewhat common in that they turn up from time to time. Collectors source recently has been charging $150 for the boxes, although I have never had to pay that much.
