Here is one you don't see everyday: A Boys anti tank rifle listed at collector's source. The price would weed out all but the truly devoted.

The gun is converted to 50 cal (as so many of them are, mine is too) and a few liberties have been taken with her, like the ommision of the barrel trunnion and the installation of a scope rail. Barrel looks a bit heavy for the rifle as well, likely it is a bit nose heavy in it's present configuration. But all things aside, still a very uncommon (and cool) rifle.
 
Did I read somewhere that they used the Boys anti tank rifle to knock Japanese snipers out of palm trees.That would sure leave a awfull sized hole in the dirty little bugger
 
I read that the US Marines had a shortened Boys rifle for Island hopping in the pacific. The recoil was horrific. I have seen photos of several "US property" marked rifles, all of them Inglis made. All of them on the South side of the border too, unfortunately.

You can still find 50 cal the odd time at $6 a round. And it's not the kind of rifle you sit and fire all day long. A dozen rounds or so is enough to call it a day.

As to the southpaw problem, as I tell all left handers, with therapy (or if your grade one teachers had just used the ruler more on the knuckles) you could be cured of that anomoly.
 
Just have to say . . . there must have been some very big boys during the war.

I am assuming the name comes from the inventor or something like that? Wasn't actually made for boys to shoot tanks with . . .

It was named after a Captain Boys, who was the designer of the rifle during the 1930s and passed away before the rifle was adopted. The rifle gives a fair push back....not a rifle for a small boy.
 
Ive fired the Boys a few times and didnt find it all that bad. I found the recoil from my friends 14inch remington worse.

As for Collectors source, that price is just crazy, they also have a deact .50 M2HB Browning for close to 7 grand as well??

I was at Bud Haynes auction a number of years back with a friend who paid over 7K for his Boys, still in .55 cal. I have another friend who got his for the bargain price of 6K. Even in the USA, where the Boys are a bit more common, they are currently running 7K to 10K.

If you own a Bren carrier, the ownership of a Boys rifle is a must.

Australian troops refered to the Boyes Anti Tank rifle as "Charlie the Bastard",..my father who enlisted in the British Army shortly before the WW2, and trained on the Boyes,..echoed the same thoughts,..
 
I spoke with the money management this afternoon about this....she laughed at me.

Not much ya can do.

$7K for a rifle, plus taxes, plus shipping is kind of hard to push for....

Did you try the investment angle? How about the "every one else has one" line? Or the historic aspect? Or lie, and tell her you will sell an equal amount of other guns to pay for it.

You got to hate when common sense blocks out a rare impulse buy. After all, it is worth about as much as the cars most of us drive.
