BP Cartridge Disappoints? Companion thread to BP barrel cleaning tips

The hammer gun I used for testing was black powder proved for 1 1/4 oz loads (it has original 2 3/4" chambers), but Mike's Greener would have 1 1/8 oz proofs. Is that not a hard limit for his gun, or doesn't really matter within reason?

Is that the proof or is that what it was regulated for.

No, the proof. Typically a 2 1/2" chamber 12 gauge gun was proved with 1 1/8 oz shot.

Well I loaded up some tonight with about equal amount of powder and shot(1 oz scoop).

Used a federal paper base wad 3 inch hall cut down to 2 1/2 inches cheddite primer scoop of powder nitro card a couple homemade wads cut from corrugated cardboard a lee 4.3cc dipper packed with sawdust that has been coated with vegetable oil a couple more corrugated wads 1oz of shot and and a over shot card roll crimped with a vintage roll crimper.

Going to give these a shot out of my stevens 58 just for grins might have to lube the choke up.
