Saw several cans of black for sale today. Guess it depends on where you look.

Prophet River is working on becoming a distributor for Swiss black powder. That stuff is the best there is, and I would happily pay the hazmat fee. Sure hope they get it!

Hi ryan,

Not questioning your call, I'm totally new to BP. I'm curious to know what benefit does Swiss have over Goex that makes it worth the extra $$? It seems to be quite a bit more expensive, or is that price difference more of an American thing, Goex being a domestic US product ?

Thanx

Thanx antiqueguy. Hopefully the price differences between the 2 products will be less here in Canada, similar to the way it is with many European guns. Alternatives are a good thing ;).

The Lethbridge club just got in its big yearly order from someplace in Ontario. Wish I could tell you where exactly but they kind of keep the details under wraps. The total order was over $7k including some smokeless and primers so I'm thinking that the supply hasn't dried up too bad.

One guy bought 3 kegs - 75lbs! He's splitting it up with a bunch of people but I'm glad I wasn't driving with him this afternoon. Just wouldn't be a relaxing drive...

Hope the rumours about swiss powder are true. I'd be interested to try some.

Swiss powder is great stuff. I use 1 1/2 in my Gibbs. It is marginally more in the USA but still much cheaper than here. I don't think too many will be paying in the $50.00 to $60.00 range for a pound of Swiss! Dave

John Emmitt, Thorold, ON imports GOEX for most of Canada. Alternatively, go to Michigan and buy it cheaper: you can bring back 15 lb in 1 lb tins without any restrictions, permits, etc. Recent prices in Washington and Idaho were $18 to $20 for GOEX and $28 for Swiss, if I could find it. GOEX is readily available. Here in Alberta, Swiss is non-existent and GOEX ranges from $20 to about $33, depending on the source. When you find some, suggest you stock up a 2 year supply to head off future powder famines... and you can always sell some to friends in need.

I recently returned from the US, and stopped in Miles City, Montana, where one of the North American distributers is located. The company is Western Powders, Ltd. I visited their business, but they are a wholesaler, and wouldn't sell to me. They sent me to Red Rock Sporting Goods, who are the local mon+pop outdoor store (but a really, really nice one!) where they sold me their last can of Swiss 1 1/2 for $32. That is a bit higher than what I see on the net, everything I saw in the US vis a vis shooting, is sky high right now. Supply and demand, I guess. Anyway, the point of the post is that Swiss powder is available in Miles City, which is sort of accessable if you live in southern Sask. It would be interesting to see if Western Powders would sell to a small group of Canadian shooters if the pitch was right. If 4 people were to go down together, they would be able to bring back a combined 34 kg of powder in one pond cans. If Western wouldn't do that, would your local gun shop or smith put in the order for you, and arrange for you to pick it up? Wholesale! If not, a call ahead to Red Rock would likely get him to do a deal for you if he knew in advance. He said that they don't typically stock much, as there is no ML deer season in Montana. I certainly intend to call ahead and make arrangements the next time I go through.

EasyRider there was a post on the Shiloh forums regarding a Canadian distributor for Swiss. It seems that we might soon have a regular supply in Alberta. I'm waiting to try the new Goex powder. As soon as it's available here I'll be ordering a case.

Chris.
