In your opinion is spending the extra $130 worth it too buy the BPS camo 12 gauge 3.5" versus the bps stalker 12 gauge 3.5"? This will be my first shotgun and used as all purpose from upland gsme to target and maybe deer this year. Is there a better choice around that $700 - $800 range?

It comes down to are you going to sell it someday. If you are the camo keeps more of it's value and will sell quickly.I have one of each in 3 1/2 the camo is a well used duck gun and the stalker a never used back up for when I go on hunting trips anmd take two guns
The bps is a fine worthing gun.
 
Another question to ask yourself is it worth the extra $100 to get the 3-1/2" are you really needing that.Ask your buddy's that have them and see if they actually use 3-1/2" shells. I asked around about 5 years ago before I bought a new shotgun and only one guy out of 5 or 6 used 3-1/2" shells in there gun.
 
Great choice on pump gun. I too would stick to the 3" chamber. But I would recomend the Stalker in black. I have seen too many camo finishs fade, peel, and get eaten by solvent to ever buy another one.
 
I say just get the black one as well. Camo also go out of style when they come out with a new one. For a BPS i say 3" is enough.
 
Just my opinion, but first and foremost, since this will be your first shotgun, you really should be more concerned with the fit and comfort of the gun before you expand on what options you're looking for.
The BPS is a great pump no doubt, but for many the fit and the weight isn't always to their liking. In that price range, the 870 Wingmaster is another fine option.
Either way, camo or not, 3" gets my vote.

I am just counting on my toes and I am on my 6th browning camo and have never seen any fade, peel etc, remington now is a different story.Sledman is right fit should be no.1.

I would go with plain black Synthetic or Wood, you should be able to pick up a New Synthetic or Wood BPS for less than 600$ before taxes.

My BPS is a Black Synthetic 3 1/2inch chambered Stalker. It has as far as I can tell between 15-18k rounds through it. Two thirds of all the shells I have fired are either Heavy steel or lead, I have shot around 1000 3 1/2's through it for geese or patterning for Turkey or just getting rid of Odds and ends.

As far as other pumps in the price range go there are none better, Wingmaster are about 200$ more and no better and they seem to be getting worse.
 
Yes, fit and feel is important. I have both the BPS and a Wingmaster. For me, the Wingmaster is a much better fitting and pointing gun. And it isn't as heavy which is nice for carrying. Of course heavy is a good thing for waterfowl loads . As far as cammo, can't help you there. I am a blue and walnut guy!:HR:
 
Yes every thing I have read about buyign a shotgun said fit is number 1, I have handled them and fits me fine and the weight is not an issue. I am thinking I might go with the black synthetic. Now the chamber size I dont know maybe get the 3" and save $120 from the 3.5" and if further down the road I feel I need more power its just all the more reason to buy another gun maybe try 10 gauge. Thanks for all the replies.
