I wish to acquire a pump in 20ga with 26" bbl......will be used mostly for Upland.

Appreciate your opinions on which one go for in terms of smoothness of action/pump, quality and performance. I found the Browning wood/metal finish to be slightly better. Both fit me well but I've no experience with pumps at all......just going by my brief inspections during visits to gun shops.

Also looked at the Nova, doesn't fit that well although I would still like to try out one with a 24" bbl.

How is recoil with pumps when compared with sxs and o/u? Don't suppose it'd be more. Also, welcome your views pertinent to simplicity and ease of stripping for maintenance.

Thanks,

There both well made guns. No complaints about the 870, but get the Browning BPS with the pistol grip stock. Better trigger, bottom eject and tang-safey. Plus the barrels are back bored for less felt recoil. Idefinatly can feel the recoil differance between my BPS & 870!

The Browning has better overal quailty of fit and finish over the 870.

Aside from how well each fits YOU, weight and carrying qualities are also very important in an upland gun. A barrel-heavy gun will tire out your off-hand quickly, and a heavy gun tires out both. Ignore felt recoil from a light gun; it's not an issue when hunting.

And upland guns stay pretty clean, you're not usually cleaning mud out of a wet gun after a grouse hunt.

Thanks for the input, folks......did eventually settle for a Nova....found that to be suitable in all aspects - personal opinion only :). The forend, well, seems like it's gonna come off any time......I'd likely flush more game if I continue to lightly shake the firearm as I walk :D
