Kind of narrowed it down to these 2. I realize a lot has to do with fit, which I'll have a better idea of later this week( on my day off).
I would however, appreciate any thoughts/ impessions of these 2 12 guage all around guns.
I like both guns. I used to run with BPS shotguns, had several of them... Until... One of them dropped from a standing position to its side & the vent rib was bent to the barrel. Had a gunsmith try to fix it, but the damage always bugged me...
I have also had several MP153 shotguns, made a mistake & sold my last one to a buddy... Have just ordered & will have 2 new ones in my hot little hands shortly... 24 inch barreled synthetic babies!
Just shoot the hell out of it with HEAVY loads like steel waterfowling shells! After about 100 rounds or so, it will cycle lighter shells.
I picked up the two new MP153 shotguns for waterfowling, so they will see little in the way of light shells... Maybe a skeet or trap day or two, but that's it.
They are work horses, & the MP153 is tougher than the BPS...
The MP-153 is a good field model in that price point and built tough. I had picked up one around 2005 (to test in parallel with my Benelli SBE II and M2) when Baikal initially started promoting that here for either $399 or $499 (I think?)....they didn't have plastic back then.
The fit and finish on the later production batches are much nicer.
Folks who may be considering the MP-153 at this time - an idea may be to wait and see if the MP-155 field model shows up on the gun shelves later this year.....looks the shotgun has a few improvements in comparison to its predecessor.
I have a BPS with maybe 18 or 19 thousand rounds through it. I think the Baikal is a good entry level Semi, but everyone I know who has run them eventually trades them off.
I'm not really a fan of semi autos but I have a 153 and love it. The bps is a nice gun as I love pumps but I prefer them in the sub gauges. I don't think they have anything on the ithaca 37
I haven't owned a semi in a long time. I'm pretty sure I'll know which one when I pick them up and compare side by side.
I am leaning towards wood furniture, although both the BPS and the MP153 synthetic stocks are supposed to be of good quality.
It will be mostly a turkey and waterfowl gun, so hopefully will be well broken in before I put some light loads through it. Not an issue on the BPS of course.
I have a MP153 24" synthetic. I love it. It handles as well as my 1100 Remington. NEVER jams NEVER quits. It will far out last and out perform the BPS. It's other advantage is the 3.5 chambering. Plus you don't have to pump it.
I own a number of shotguns, but my BPS upland is my favourite by far. It is twenty years old and no problems yet. I don't own a 153 so I can't comment there.

Yes it is available in 3.5" chambering ( the BPS) but how many people opt for that model? The MP 153 is standard in 3.5" except early ones. I don't think my friends or I throw away too many rounds.... we may but I have alot of duck/goose dinners to plan this winter..
