BPS problems

I have a BPS, not sure on the age that I got second hand. I love how the gun handles, but since getting it I noticed that about 60% the magazine won't feed a round to be chambered. I have tried several brands of ammo and they all do this. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

EDIT* It turns out that the issue was simply reassembly.

Sounds like the cartridge stop is malfunctioning. It is possible that the gun was taken apart and not put back together right. I would start there. next would be sticky follower, weak spring in the mag tube.

Could be crud in the mag tube. Pull the spring and follower out and run a brush and then a oily rag down to see if that helps.

I had the same problem , I took it apart and noticed that there was a lot of factory grease behind the cartridge stops . I cleaned it out and gave the mag tube and follower a good wipe off , lightly oiled them and it's run perfectly ( 300+ rounds ) ever since . Hopefully , that's all that's wrong with yours . Hope this helps
 
Its not dirt. I stripped it down and cleaned it, but... the previous owner said they never had an issue with it. I thought it was reassembled properly, (tripple checked it) but maybe I am missing something. I will bring it to someone with more knowledge than myself and see if they can reassemble it properly.
 
I just started using a BPS this fall. What I did notice was that the stroke is a little longer than most pumps. I was short stroking the gun on occasion getting a click instead of a boom is annoying. You probably are not doing this but cycle some dummies through the gun with good hard strokes that complete with a rearward stop and forward stop. See if 60% still don't work.

From what I understand, the switch was to be able to change the shell in the chamber while hunting without having to empty the magazine.Much like the feature on the old Browning Auto 5.

I have/had a full set from 410-10ga ( sold 10ga 2 years ago since it was killing me) and have not seen this feature since probally 1979/80 or so on 12ga and recall it didnot last very long maybe mid 80's but that is a guess and the ones I remember didnot have choke tubes also
No wonder many have never seen it IMO

All the 12 gauges I have seen has had the switch. I have never seen it on a non- 12 gauge.

Are they choke tube guns?? made after 83 or so
I have a 12 3" and a 12ga 3 1/2 and nothing on either but these are late 90's or so

The ones I have seen were when they first came out in 79 or so and most in the early 80's were TRAP models
They seemed to eliminate it mid 80's
