Haven't had an opportunity yet to communicate with Browning on the subject.

Could anyone please confirm my assumption that a longer bbl (let's say a 26in that is generally installed on a current model BPS Hunter) will also be compatible with a current model BPS Upland Special?

The intent is to utilize the firearm in dual roles i.e. for Waterfowl as well.
 
Now you have to spew where you are going to get a barrel from!! I tried for almost a year to get a new barrel from Browning with no luck.

Ah, I haven't reached that bridge as yet. :) Merely doing a bit of legwork at this point in time. I specifically prefer some of the features on the BPS i.e. tang safety + the ability to empty the mag tube without having to cycle the action.

For me, gun fit, on the other hand (as in the case of most Brownings), is a question. I actually do need to shoot the BPS Upland Special before I decide to buy one.

I do not see why Epps can't get an extra barrel - admittedly, it may take some time......come to think of it, a couple years ago, I had to wait aprox 10 months to get a sxs back from Precision Arms that simply needed chokes to be opened up. However, I wanted that particular Gunsmith to perform the job.

Now an extra bbl (or other components) for a Benelli would involve a real loooong wait time :D.

A Browning bbl from Browning Canada will take every bit as long as a Benelli bbl from Stoeger Canada. The only difference is the ladies who answer the phone and explain why your bbl isn't here yet. The ladies who answer the phone at Stoeger are very pleasant and the ones at Browning are......not.
 
BPS Upland Special question - a different one this time....

I am given to understand that (as default) the BPS Upland model may have been designed to shoot high?

Could anyone offer more insight on the subject. Thanks,
 
Other than an english grip, is the stock dimension different? I don't see someone making a pump shoot high on purpose other than on a trap model.

From what I have been told you are correct. My 16ga upland BPS is about 5-6" high for sure on paper. They told me they are designed like a trap i.e. for birds rising and not pass shooting. The rest of my browning bps are just hunter models and donot shoot high at all when patterned.
 
Appreciate the confirmation. Wonder why Browning designed that as such? I reckon mainly for close shots over Pointers?

I must say that Grouse do not tend to be so accommodating so as to 100% mimick a clay bird hurled over a Trap field :). I'd much rather use a flat shooting gun.

Out of curiosity, any idea how does the 16 handle when compared to a 20ga? Thanks,

I love the 16ga but it could be a stick with 16ga stamped on it and I would love it. :)That being said my 20ga bps is not an upland and I find the 28" barrel too long. I also have a 20ga and a 12ga remington 1100 with the english stock which both shoot flat but don't handle or fit as well as the browning upland even with their short barrels.
 
I just can't seem to to hang on to a pump (or semi) for a sufficiently longer period. FWIW, a few years back, I had owned a Upland Spl for about a couple of weeks and then traded that off as unfired.....I should've been a bit more loyal :).

However, I would like to give the BPS a second chance as I really like the features and the scale of the Upland model even though the sub gauge shotgun is comparatively heavier. I feel it would make a nice Grouse gun besides I can carry slugs for that.....guess I would've to learn to compensate somewhat to shoot effectively.

I must add, I own a 20ga Citori Upland Spl (24in bbls) and it fits me real well, however, the stock measurements are quite different in comparison with the Upland pump model..... I really do need to shoot the BPS before I buy one.

I would. The upland has a different feel for sure and it seems to fit most like an old remington 1100 does.I don't notice the high point of impact at all in a hunting shot. In fact seems to keep you from tearing the body of a grouse apart with more hits to the head area.
 
Next question. Does anyone know if a regular pistol grip stock will fit an upland special? Always thought it would make a nice turkey gun but a pistol grip would be better for turkey.

Yeah! The compact 20ga BPS Upland has a certain appeal as a Grouse gun with its tang safety, mag tube unload feature provided I can shoot that well.

It is quite likely that a BPS Hunter stock will fit the bill.....my hunch is that the BPS Upland utilizes the same receiver as the BPS Micro that is equipped with a pistol grip stock with a shortened LOP.
