There is a Benchrest match this weekend at the Rosebud Club west of Calgary. It will be a light varmint and heavy varmint event, contested at 100 and 200 yards. There will also be Unlimited class on Saturday at 200 yds. These will all be group shoots.

Location and club info can be found here: http://www.benchrest.ca/Clubs.html

Practice usually takes place the Friday afternoon as well. I am sure there will be people there to show you around a competition BR rifle.

Weather looks great. Beautiful range in a beautiful setting. Come out and see what it is all about. Better yet, bring out a live varmint, F-Class or tactical rifle and try your hand at it. Everybody starts somewhere!

Very Interested ! You said bring your Tac Rifle and give it a try.I would Love to.More info on this part please.
Thanks
Scott

Scott,

Usually most shooters that are interested BR already have a rifle of some sort suited to shooting groups, be it live varmint, tactical etc.. They are welcome to come out and shoot alongside the BR rifles. This is how we suck you into our game!

Your rifle may not fit into any one class, that is fine, we will give you your own class if need be, ie "tactical".

The format is 5-shot groups, you will have 7 minutes to shoot a group, and you can use unlimited sighters. There will be 5 groups at each distance and class. The average of the 5 groups (in moa) becomes your score. We shoot off concrete benches.

You will need at least 25 rounds (5x5shots) plus any sighters you want to fire at each distance. I would guess 35-45 rds per 5 groups would be adequate. 140-180 for the weekend if you stayed and shot all the distances and classes.

You can shoot off a low bipod on the bench, sand bags would be better if you have them.

Bring a lunch and drinks, we break for lunch around 11:30 -12:00.

Have a look around the website below for some additional info on the game.

Hope to see you there!

Rick

Just fill out the registration form when you get there. Aim to be there around 8am, we start at about 9am.

Looking forward to seeing you out there.

Rick

One last thing, normal entry fees run about $60 for the weekend, however in the case of any first time BR competitors we will wave the entry fees. Courtesy of your fellow competitors and the BRSC!

Playing dirty to get 'em hooked.......Awesome!!! :D

Next you'll be giving out donor rifles to really set the hook.

I'm hooked already if the price is this cheep. I may just pack my Tactical 243 up and head out that way as well, might find some competition and the fun factor looks to be around 100%.
Cheers

Big thumbs up to all the old hands in the various target disciplines that seem to be stepping up to the plate these days to encourage more participation...

What you said, the more people getting involved in any of the various disciplines can only help our sport.

This was a great weekend! There was some fantastic shooting, several newcomers took up the offer to shoot with us, not to mention a few small groups were shot! Dan Opel "DanO" on here, ran away with the show and delivered quite the beating on the rest of the field. Good show Dan! Since Dan is a gunsmith and swages his own bullets I guess we won't need to read the equipment list to see what he was using!

Full match report and results can be found here: http://www.benchrest.ca/match_results.html
