Brakes for a norc?

How could the navy brake affect accuracy? Not doubting your findings, just curious what's happening without evidence of bullet strikes?
I put one on one of my rifles and didn't notice any problems, and it really helps with follow up shots.

Bullet strikes are an extreme case and their effect is obvious, but if the brake "bore" isn't very nearly perfectly concentric with the barrel bore, that can upset the bullet flight.

I'm not sure what the mechanism might be although Andy raises a potential cause. I had thought it might be a change in barrel harmonics but then a change in load should have corrected for this. My Navy brake used the castle nut type attachment and had no visible mechanical defects.

The accuracy effects opened up my groups from about 1.5 MOA to 2+ MOA which is not atrocious for these rifles, just not what I needed - especially when I was trying to get the 1.5 MOA Challenge done. I'd think that unless one was getting pretty good results from the rifle, the change in accuracy might not be noticeable.

www. grizzlygunworks.com canadian company that makes custom brake for any rifle you want, they can thread or do clamp ons. I have one on my VZ58 in 5.56 and I plan on getting one for my norc... they are pretty pricy, but they are awesome
