Hi

Well like you can see im new to the board.
Let me introduce myself ...

First name : Chuck
Last name : Norris
Middle name : God

:yingyang:

Enough BS. Ive been owning guns for the last 10 years mostly for hunting and plinking. My last purchase is a M77 MkII .270WSM , it made me renew with target shooting. I really enjoy it.

I always wanted a AR look alike .223 rifle but dont know much about them.
I know that every time I see one the I like it's Restricted. :bsFlag:

Is there non Restricted AR out there ? can I build one ?
I want to get a set up for 200m. Where do I start ?

I have the Restricted class on my licence I just never got into it. With all the transport Permit and permanent Shooting range subscription.

Thanks for your time guys
And Nice forum you got there, Ive been looking for it a long time. Canadian firearm info are hard to find on the net :canadaFlag:

All AR15 type rifles and variants are classed restricted by Order In Council (OIC). That means no matter how long the barrel or other co, they are always restricted.

Now you may be asking why all AR15's are restricted. The answer is because the Tooth Fairy had really bad gas one day.

There are a few black non-restricted rifles and some others.

There was a thread outlining the different makes/models a little while ago

1) AR 180b
2) SL8
3) Swiss Arms Classic Green (i think)
4) Cz 858 (more a red gun I think)
5) XCR

and some others, but none of them really look like or operate like an AR, at least from what I understand.

EDIT: Here we go

You might want to look into the AR180B-2. It is not an AR-15 look alike, although it is a black rifle-style firearm. However, it does take AR-15 (STANAG) magazines.

[EDIT: Wow, in the time it took me to post this, you got two (more complete) answers above. Gotta love CGN. Good work guys!]

Wow that was fast !

I Looked a picture... you guys are right dosent look like a AR.

I guess that if I'm about to spend 2K for a AR I better buy the real deal instead of a so call immitation.

Seems like im gonna have to make the Restrited Jump :S

You can get a pretty decent quality AR for less than $2000, but add on 10 round mags and some optics and ammo and you'll be there.

There is a price premium for the non-restricted semi's that you don't necessary see with the standard AR15

Thanks again for all the answers

If I make the jump what do I buy ? I know nothing about AR's except that they look badass and can be very accurate.

Will I get a better deal buying it Online ?
Is looking for a used one is a good Ideal ?

The XCR is a damn good rifle. Its not an AR, its better than an AR. (piston v. gas impingement, solid upper reciever, quick caliber conversions, better ergonomics, you can charge it with the left side charging handle without removing it from firing position and it has an ambidextrous safety and bolt release.

...And so it begins.

NOOB here too !:p

The XCR takes the same mags as the AR ?
Will look at it ! seems to be a great rifle !

I truly mean no offense to the AR guys. I've fired AR's, they are lots of fun. However you cannot dispute much of what I said.

Does the AR have ambidextrous safety or bolt release? Does it have a quick caliber conversion capability? Can you charge it while it is at your shoulder?
