Brand new colt 1911 frame scratch

Pistol might have been dropped, or something dropped on it. It’s definitely a scratch and a dent. Took a good hit to leave that mark.

Did you rub the finish with the side cutters, cutting the stupid zip tie off, hard to see , but in first picture I don't see a mark.
The zip tie would have been put on by the store.

so what exactly do you people think happens to the gun when you shoot it? Or is this a mantle piece to sit in a dark vault forever, only to be fondled on rare occasions where top shelf brandy, smoking jackets and stock portfolios are discussed?

It's a tool, shoot it, enjoy it, repeat.

Yup, looks like he messed it up himself and has the pictures to prove it.

I blew up the first photo of the pistol with the ziplock still in place, and there is sure no evidence of the mark that appears in the second photo.

If it came to you with the scratch/dent insist on the dealer taking it back and issuing a refund or finding you another one. You paid for a new gun and that’s what you should be getting. Not one with a scratch/dent on it.
I went through the same problem trying to purchase a Mossberg shotgun, two damaged guns were sent but in the end the dealer gave me a refund but refused to pay for the return shipping.

I have to agree the first photo when you zoom in does not show the scratch. I would tend to agree you made the mark with cutters trying to remove the zip tie

Sorry buds but it's a tool go use it and enjoy it.

so i decided to splurge and buy myself a nice colt 1911 for xmas, i received notice that the blue titanium colt in 45 acp was back in stock, i started looking for one of these back in march and pretty much sold out everywhere. This one came up and i pulled the trigger seeing as it's kind of rare and unique, i don't do much shooting i mostly collect just for fun. i Bought myself a Dan Wesson Silverback for my 30th,and a kimber custom two tone no marks on these guns from use.
I ordered it Dec 24th, it was applied for Jan 5 and shipped Jan 7, i was away for 3 and a half weeks, just got home the other day with much excitement and anticipation.

I opened the package and can see a scratch on the frame, I'm contacting the seller business, but they are telling me they reviewed videos and shipping procedures, and inspected it no shipping damage.
I feel like they are going to say i'm responsible and they won't help me out
has anyone on here had one of these guns or a finish issue? i'm wondering if colt customer service will help out at all
it looks like it was impacted and scratched under the trigger guard, I' wondering what kind of coating this is, they don't say on the website, I'm wondering how durable it is or if it's just going to scratch or peel just from regular use? or get all marked up?
i have other 1911's and they are used and don't show marks like this.
should i try and get an exchange? a refund? or look for something else or just bite the bullet it'll get marked up from use?

That's what I did.

after expanding the picture to maximum, it is impossible to determine the scratch because of the angle the picture is taken, and because of the wrinkles in the plastic bag.

Check the angle the pictures are taken.

Don't work with them, work with your CC company.

That's the problem with a lot of dealers, way too many Armands from Badger Arms are still in business.

The "st/dealer" is right, no damage was done during shipping, the gun was screwed up in his shop, most likely when they cut the hole in the plastic bag to install the zip tie.

You MUST reveal such a shady business, then send them a link to this thread.

Damn, that's a name I haven't heard in a while.

update, after contacting them and calling them several times, they claimed that they take pictures before the firearm is shipped out and yes it's standard for them to install zip ties for a trigger lock prior to shipping
basically they told me they could do a $50 in store credit. i said no, they said i could ship it back to them and they will inspect and possibly give me a refund as long as there is no other damage
no i used a pair of scissors to remove the zip tie i took my time and Where the zip tie is and where the mark is aren't even close.
it's hard to see in my picture but below that "w" on the lower trigger guard its sharp and jagged like something impacted it. more noticeable to the naked eye
yes i could live with scratches and dings if i did them but this is how i received a brand new gun, not acceptable. i my never fire it might be just a collector but a scratch and impact look terrible
company purchased from g4cgunstore.com
the gun is being sent back hopefully for a refund

i did the same thing i looked at the first picture too i can't make it out either but i inspected the bag and below the zip tie hole the bag looks like it was scratching on something theres a spot that looks like it was rubbing on the impact mark on the lower trigger guard because the rest of the bag is clear see through except a small area that would have been on the trigger guard

My Ruger SR1911 came in the box, with a yellow tie. Whether the dealer put on the zip tie or not, who knows.

That’s a bad looking scratch and normal reaction would be WTF!!!
For a shooter, not an issue for me.

For a collector, the man and the piece, very very bad. I’d do what I need to do to exchange or get my money back.

My old Ruger P-series aluminum pistol frames are still practically scratch free after 25-30 yrs.

Whats wrong with guys saying "take it, shoot it and shut up" ?

OP paid the premium for the pistol as he wants to collect it, it's not off the EE !

If I buy something NEW, I expect it NEW in every aspect.

What if you'd buy a new car and at the moment you have to take possession of it, its scratched and stained. Would you be ok with that ?

Not all guns leave the factory in perfect condition
The majority of people "light them up" and expect to have a few issue's, so no one get's totally concerned
from a factory/distributor point of view , on small scratches etc.
The real problem is supply and demand.
Everyone waits for supply from Colt, and it is very limited, so people buy what they can get and sell it
I think there are more buyer's than product

So what?

He paid good money for a NEW gun in NEW CONDITION, what's so hard to understand?
