Hi guys:

I've had this for an hour.
I haven't shot it yet and am about to take the barrel off to clean it first.
Seems wrong to me but after reading lots around here I understand I need to clean out the shipping grease.

OK, I got that done.
The barrel is very tight in the receiver, maybe just a virginal issue.
I got quite a bit of brownish crap out of the bore and it is now visibly a lot cleaner.
Tomorrow, I find out what fun a semi automatic is!
 
Good looking rifle. A tight barrel to receiver fit is what I have noticed about the new 10/22's as opposed to the older ones. Also, the trigger assembly fit more snug into the receiver as well.
 
Too bad the new ones have that crappy plastic trigger group, if they would go back to metal, I would buy a newer model.

somewhere on youtube or ShootingUSA there is a video of the "crappy" plastic trigger group taking pretty substantial whack and not breaking while the old pot metal one explodes...
 
Iron sight question

That was fun!
It's not going to help my ammunition stock though, I'm going to have to start buying 'walls' instead of 'bricks'.
Full auto might be a problem for me.

I got 'see-through' rings because I want to use the iron sights too.

The problem is that the rail and cross bolts obscure the rear iron sight.
I've searched around here and don't see anything simple, all I want is a similar sight set that sits about 1/8" higher and presses into the same barrel dovetails.

Any suggestions?

Yep. Lose the crappy see through rings, fold down the rear sight, and get back to having fun! :)

If you really feel the need to use irons once in a while, spring for a decent set of QD rings and remove the scope entirely.

Trying to ginch yourself around to see both a scope and the irons, is unnecessary, and impedes getting a decent cheek weld for either.

Just my two bits, eh! :D

Very nice rifle! But.... according to some, you won't be able to fire more than two or three rounds before it jams, and when it does actually fire, you won't hit anything.:p Ahhhh, just kidding.

You have a nice rifle there. Put some good rings on it, and go to it! Those nice ammunition companies make all that ammo just for us to shoot off.

Actually, it wouldn't chamber the first round because it got caught on the front of the magazine so there was a comical few minutes of me trying to figger out what I was doing wrong.
I suspect the new mag needs some wear on it and maybe the hollow point didn't help.
After I sorted that out, it shot like a champ.

Well, you guys seem to be solidly against my very cool see-through rings. They aren't crap guys, they're Leopard rings, or maybe Leaper.
Anyway, the local guy has the regular ones in stock so I'll be swapping those out today.

Well, which is it? If they are Leaper...they are indeed crap!:D

Nice looking gun. You will enjoy it. But why do you feel that you need to remove the barrel just to clean it? The only time I remove a barrel from a 10/22 is to swap barrels.

They're Leopard for sure, leopards can see in the dark so these are pretty cool rings.

You guys were right about my dorky see-through rings. These feel a lot better. The local guy swapped me straight up, pretty good for a small country store, he actually thanked me for putting them back together in the package! Maybe a small thing but going to Wal-Mart or CTC to save a buck on ammunition is not something I'm going to do. I'll buy everything from there. He wasn't surprised that I returned them, he almost told me not to get them but he thinks I know what I'm doing because I've shown him a couple of projects I've done.

About removing the barrel to clean it:
- I don't have a bore snake partly because reading around here has told me that a bore snake needs to be cleaned after every use.
- The barrel is coming off one more time so I can drill a hole in the back of the receiver and clean it with patches through the back after that.
I didn't really want to take the gun apart before shooting it and I sure didn't want to drill a hole in it before shooting it so that's the compromise I came up with.
 
That looks way better and you are going to shoot it better also. It is very good to take your gun apart for a good cleaning when new. I do it to every gun I buy, new or not. When you have it apart the next time put a bolt buffer in it, there is NO better $5 improvement out there IMHO. I use a bore snake, I don't clean it every time I use it but I do put it in a sock in the laundry every couple of weeks to keep it clean. I am not a big fan of the hole in the receiver as you still have to disassemble the gun to clean the barrel and that is a big fat PITA IMO. If you are handy PM me your email address and I'll send you the files on how to modify your stock trigger group so it is as good or better than any aftermarket part.

They're not Leopards...they're Leupolds. Bottom-of-the-line Leupolds, but still totally satisfactory, decent-quality rings, and a big improvement over those see-through craptastics. Looks much better, and will allow a much nicer cheekweld on the stock.

That looks fantastic! I have never seen the jacaranda stock up close but its a nice finish! I'm looking for a 10/22 now, might have to look into that laminate stock... I'm still torn between a TD or the standard model.
