Remington Mountain Rifle in .260 Rem

Ruger 77 MkII in .260 Rem

Remington CDL in 7mm-08

Remington 700 SPS stainless in 7mm-08

When I am interested in a rifle it is always the caliber that first attracts me. I'd be interested in a .375 H&H some day. I don't need one, but it is a true classic cartridge that I want to own (the .375 Ruger does not interest me).

The rifle companies that would interest me, in a .375 H&H would be Winchester M-70; CZ-550 or ZKK-602 or a Ruger M-77; I might consider the Ruger No. 1 Tropical. Older rifles like the Parker Hale Safari ; Mauser M-98 or Enfields in .375 H&H would also be cool. The new Czech built Remington M-798 (I think that's the right model) with Mauser action are also interesting to me. The other classic cartridge that I might get some day is the 9.3x62.

I am not interested in any bolt guns from Kimber; Browning; Tikka/Sako. I would buy a Browning BAR in .338WM, if I stumbled on a good deal on one.
The only Savage rifles that I like are their varmint guns, but I already have a CZ-527 in .223.

One of these would sure be nice;)

Little costly so if I was looking to buy a rifle to get me in the woods with no frills just meat on the pole I'd grab me a Stevens or a Savage for way cheaper than the HH and with a little tweak on the trigger a bed job and file the mould seams off and it'll likely out shoot the HH too. Use the other $120,000 to pay for a hunt'n trip or two.
Sako or Rem 700 would be my choice if I were to spend a bit more and if it were woodchucks only I'd be after one of the Rem 700 custom jobs by one of the better barrel makers.

My top picks...
Ruger M77 Mark II in .350 Rem Mag and .280 Rem
Remington Model 700 Police .308
CZ 550 SAFARI MAGNUM in .375 H&H
Sako 75 Hunter 6.5 x 55
Anschutz 1710D .22LR

Ruger frontier in 338 federal.
Respect your choice there - but I think another .020" bullet diameter is even more perfect.

So I say make mine a Ruger frontier in 358 Win - my copy is in the mail now I'm told. Stinkin expensive little brush gun though!

have you handled one yet? I have yet to see one in person ,the local store here said they were bringing one in in 358 but it would be a while.

have you handled one yet?
Nope - but as I said - it's supposed to be in the mail. So this time next week I should be shootin it. Bear season opens Aug. 15 and it might be fun to try for yogi and boo boo with that one if I have time to get it shooting well - we'll see.

What's your budget, and your intended use for the rifle?

I've been meaning on picking up a Cooper for the longest time now, probably in 6mmBR, or possibly 6mmx45 (6mm-223) for varminting. Also Dakota 76's give me wood :p

A very good question.
If there was a price restriction and we were really talking "off the shelf", not just current production, it would be a Ruger No.1a 7x57.
But as there's no mention of that it would be this...

A Krieghoff Quadro drilling in 12g/12g/7x65R with KS insert barrels in 9.3x74R to quickly convert it to an all rifle drilling in 9.3x74R/9.3x74R/7x65R, since price is no object.
That way I could go small game shooting with the shotgun bbls, medium to large game using the 7mm bbl and big game, even dangerous game, using the insert bbls in 9.3mm.
In fact, if I was allowed to have only one gun this would be it and aside of keeping my .22lr I reckon I could do all my hunting with it.
