Brand new rifle and scope.....ran out of clicks on my scope at 100/200 yards....WTF?

Did you count the clicks up and compare it to your total availble elevation adjustment the optic has? Does it match? How is the windage? Is it out very far either way? (poor machining?) If not sounds like the right kind of problem to have to me!
 
I don't think ur scope is the issue at all.

I had this exact same problem with a savage 22-250 a few years ago. Something was messed up with the way the action was threaded. I sent it back and they gave me a new one. The new one worked perfect with the same scope and rail.

Same deal. It was shooting so high I pretty much ran out of clicks at 100y.
 
Really? ...damn. Say if it is the action, how would it affect the bullet coming out of the barrel? If the barrel is pointed in same direction, how can the bullet "magically" jump in elevation so juractically ?

This weekend I'm gonna do some 100/200 yard shooting with Hornady 75 gr. BTHP Match (as a posed to lighter, faster 55 gr. FMJ) this heavier slower match ammo at extended ranges will drop significantly.

But my older SPS Tactical .223 three years ago, I never recalled having this problem? I was using 55 gr. FMJ too....with Bushnell Elite Tactical fixed 10x 40mm mil dot.
 
If the threading or shoulder is out then the action and the barrel are pointing in different directions. The bullet goes where the barrel is pointed but your scope is pointed where the action is pointed. You could chuck the barrel in a lathe and see if the action has any run out.
 
Quickest things to do to eliminate factors is swapping the rings, if you shoot low after permuting the front/rear ring then the rings are the prob. If you still shoot high, try low cost Weaver 2 pcs bases with the same rings.
If that doesn't solve, then it's the scope or rifle.
 
Pietro, without running the two loads you suggest through a calculator, I would be almost certain you will start to see an edge to the 75gr bullet as they get out to 300 meters. And 100-200 is not extended range, I have seen lighter/faster shoot lower on paper at these ranges, barrel harmonics I guess.
 
Just got back from the 200 yard range...what a fun day shooting on a gorgeous sunny Saturday afternoon :) ...I had 4 boxes of Hornady Match 75 gr. BTHP and 1 box of Fed. American Eagle Tactical .223 55 gr. FMJ. Btw Cdn Shooter....you were right lol ;) both rounds were at same impact point at 200 yards lol....I would've thought the heavier 75 gr bullet would've been a little lower? ...I guess at 400/500 + in will drop significantly.

Long story short....f@Ck it, it's zeroed perfectly at 200 yards, and don't plan on shooting any closer. I was shooting 1MOA consistently at 200 yards...not sub MOA lol. 2 inch groups at 200 yards at 10x power on my scope. At least I know I have LOTS of elevation adjustments at my disposal when I eventually get to private farm land with 500 yards plus.

I paid $645 all in, out the door for my Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223 Rem, and for the price...its a nice heavy barreled target rifle. I'm happy with it. The rings and mount are all torqued on to proper spec and locktite on all threads, I'm not too keen on removing everything....its dead on at 200 yards, and I have LOTS of elevation clicks to play with when I go well beyond 200 yards.
