Brand New SKS, how do i get rid of the smell of cosmoline 😂

Back when the gun and a case of ammo was $300 or so, I had friends just buy one, wipe off the outside and burn through a case as fast as possible in an afternoon. Then a week or two later, they put another case through it. Those things are almost indestructible. I bought mine for $165 back in the day and it's seen about 1500. I also clean it though.

Make sure you take apart and clean well the bolt .
clean any grease from firing pin channel to avoid slam fires .
lots good videos on you tube how to take apart bolt its not difficult.

Further info: it's a french tickler with a wood coloured upper ribbed handguard (no idea if its bakelite or poly or something else, it sounds plasticky but doesnt look like other bakelite handguards I've handled).

rom the serial number it appears to be an 1979-1980 SKS from arsenal /26\ with all matching numbers.

I'm not a gunsmith I dont know for sure but it seems like it could be un-issued from my initial inspection
I have the same gun. Just picked mine up in December. Mine is a 1979 production caked in cosmoline. I'm dreading the day I need to actually clean it before I shoot it. As of now, it sits in my safe.
