Brand new zastava m70 won't eject

I just opened the box on my brand new zastava full stock. Put some dummy rounds in and cycled the action. Well the extractor isn't picking the round up, and it won't eject. Pull back the bolt and the round is just sitting on top of the follower. I pulled the bolt out and slid the round between the extractor and bolt face and it just falls back out.
I took the extractor off and put one from a standard m98 does the exact same thing.
Please help!!!
What can be wrong with this rifle. I called the shop where I got it from, they told me to send it back to them and I may not get it back. They also don't make them anymore so I will not get a replacement.
Anyone have any ideas what this can be?
 
If you were using a "snap cap" as a dummy round, I would suggest checking if the extractor properly holds a "real" brass casing, first. You do not mention the cartridge - some differ. For example, Nosler 7 shows a 9.3x62 with a .470" diameter rim; but shows a 30-06 as .473". That might not be significant in most rifles, but might be in yours? Lots of folk reform 30-06 into 9.3x62 but the rim might not actually be to spec. As per Kuhnhausen, p.61, when properly set up, the cartridge rim slot should be deflecting the extractor about .004"
 
It was a proper sized brass with a projectile. It is a 9.3x62 using proper headstamp brass.
I searched through my parts bin and found yet another extractor still with grease on it. Tried it out and it works fairly well. It's holding and ejecting. It's pretty soft ejection but I'll take what I can get. Hopefully find more of the same extractor just in case I need a spare. Now to the next issue of the front guard screw going in at an angle
 
I was going to ask the same: what caliber? What kind of "dummy" round?
I have found that while a 98 action will eject most anything, the rim diameter or thickness may play a part in bad extraction.
I try to use a brass that I am going to shoot for trials.
 
Ya I used the exact stuff I shoot. It just seems they sent the wrong extractor with it. I just chased the threads in the recoil lug and the guard screw went in much better. Never thought I would need this much work on a new rifle.
On the plus side it's very smooth action, the in letting of the wood is also good. Gonna refinish it with true oil and take the LOP down a bit. It's sitting at 14 1/2"

Mausers don't tend to throw brass very far. It was designed for infantry men firing while lined up in a row and not throwing hot brass onto the guy to the right.

Where did you hear that Zastava is discontinuing the M-70?
 
The shop that I bought it from said they won't be importing anymore full stock rifles. Sorry for my wording they are still producing them just this shop will not be getting any more in. No chance on getting a replacement.
I'm at least happy I got it to work, I will be looking for another extractor to have as a spare. Of the 4 I have only one worked I don't like those odds
 
I see you used a dummy with a bullet in it for your trials. You may find that upon firing and without the bullet, it may work better in the ejection process.
 
It may have a magnum extractor and/or a magnum bolt. Check the boldface to see if a belted magnum will slide under the extractor. If the case fits loose on the bolt face it won't eject cleanly. Of course the distance the rifle ejects is dependent on the force with which you eject.

Gotcha, I like the look of the full stocked M-70's.
 
It's feels very good too. It points very naturally
Just a little long in the stock for me, and the comb is a little high. I will contour that down when I refinish the stock. It feels so good I might not scope this rifle, might scrounge up a reciever sight for it though
 
I had a Zastava that was not extracting either.

Sent it back from the site sponsor I bought it from, and they made it good.

They are rough guns. Usually rough but functional...not always lol. Great shooters though.
 
Some time back, I decided to get a 9.3x62, ;) .366 Wagner. I thought I'd try a full wood model Zastava. My expectations for great accuracy weren't to high but with my first two sets of reloads, I was PLEASANTLY surprised. Using Lapua brass, some 285gr PRVI bullets and either IMR 4320 or IMR 4064, accuracy was great. With those results, I ordered another the same in 7x57. My only real complaint with the Zastava is the action, initially, feels a little gritty but I'm told by others, this smooths out in time with use. However, they didn't cost an arm & a leg, so, bang for the buck, no complaints :) .
