If it ever stops raining on the days when I want to go to the range I might actually get to play with my new toys. ARRRG!!! Rant over now.

So my question is regarding brass used in load development. Should I use brass that has been once fired in the rifle and neck sized or is using fully sized brass just as effective in obtaining results in finding the best load.

Note: All brass is same brand, lot, prep etc....

Thanks in advance for the advice.

It is critical that the brass is all the same lot #, same number of firings, etc. If I have a lot of the brass, I sort it by weight.

As for sizing, you are better off with a FL sized case. The round will center up in the chamber better that way.

I feel like you’ll get 20 different answers from 20 different people having had success with their own process.
My favourite process goes as is...

Redding body sizing die, resized the body and pushes headspace back 2 thous while never touching necks.
Followed by Lee Collet neck sizing die. Size neck, turn brass 1/4 turn in shellholder, size neck again.

This method gives me between 2-3 thou neck tension, while keeping runout under a thou.
Was also used to produce my 10 shot group at 300M sub 1/2 moa targets in my basement.

I also hear great things of simply going FLS given you use a quality die, never went that route myself.

Having all same brass from same lot and same amount of firings definitely a must.

The rifle is new and just wanting to start sighting in and barrel break in. I would like to start load development asap. I have a batch of new brass and was going to use that. I was wondering if I should use it right away for development or once fire it first.

But if FL resizing works then I guess I could use it right away.
