Brass Catchers

Hi all,

During a recent visit to my new club's rifle night, I noticed a few of the guys had nylon "brass catcher" bags attached to their rifles. Do you guys use these bags and where do you get something like that? it is an indoor club so it seems practical.

I've been searching the internet for a week now and I have yet to come across any in Canada. I've only seen a few on US websites but the pics aren't good and I always like to handle things before I buy them.

Does anyone know where I could buy one of these?

Any help would be great. :rockOn:
 
E-bay UTG brass Catcher

I've got a couple of these cheap UTG ones. The wire 'hoop' makes it easy to bend for odd actions.. my VZ 58 spits up and out, needed to bow the top of the hoop to catch.

Used them on AR's and my Swiss Arms. $10ea, worth trying. They velcro on. I get about a year of use out of one. Worth the $ for what they are.
 
LOL. Is it really that hard to pick them up by hand? You could either do it after each serial to save time, or all at once before you pack up and leave the range, one way or another that extra $10-$60 could be spent on more essential gear (or other stuff). Plus, being an indoor range, it shouldn't take long at all as you don't have to search for ones hidden in grass.

Just my 2 pence.
 
There's lots of people that don't shoot indoors, or at the range or even from a static position. If you reload, or change positions or move while firing brass catchers save you a lot of time.

The price of brass these days that $10-$60 can easily pay for itself in saved casings.

I don't use one of firing from the bench at the range, or when hunting. But when I knock out a few hundred rounds at a time they're nice.
 
Those are some good points. I don't have my heart set on one but as McFaul said, it may be helpful when banging out a few hundred rounds.

The cartridge smacking off the wooden divider next to me as it flies out of my 550 at such a high velocity might get old after a 100 rounds too.

Given the choice though I suppose I'd rather not have anything hanging off the gun that isn't integral to accurate shooting.

Depends. My XCR ejects the empties with what I would describe as 'considerable spirit'. They eject somewhat forward, and fly somewhere between 10 and 20 meters.
 
for outdoor ranges...bring a tarp and place it in the area that "most" of the casings fly. It makes cleanup easy and fast...

Brass catchers might be a good idea, but in this case you need to turn the gas down, you are going to really hammer the buffer and cause unnecessary wear.

I have yet to shoot my SAN 550 (this Thursday, giggity) but I have heard, and I think I read in the the manual, that it will spit the cartridge out 15-20 feet. That is on the first (regular) valve setting. That's some velocity when you are 2 feet from the shooting port divider!

That's on setting 1. If I set it any lower, it would be on the silencer setting. You should have seen it on setting 4 out of the factory! WOW!

Well, there is something with NOT pelting the guy to your right with hot casings...

This is why I always go for to the right, or ask if I can. However, if I cannot, the deflector is designed to eject them forward and right, so unless the guy is in front of the firing line, he's probably ok.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you required to keep the XCR on #4 for the first couple hundred rounds or so?
