Hi,
I have heard of people using household ingredients to clean their brass. I was just wondering if anyone would share the recipes that work well and if this sort of cleaning could damage the brass.
Thanks

Easy...Brasso...I take a Lee shell holder from Lee hand trimming case kit and put it in a drill. One rag with Brasso and few turns and a clean rag to clean the brass...Brass are better than new...Just try:D

If you're talking an additive I got this from a gunstore owner. A capful of Simoniz LIQUID car wax added to the media, let it run, then add your brass. Not sure of any problems it could cause. My 2 cents.

A large plastic jar with a large opening that can hold a gallon, the brush end of a toilet bowl cleaner, a few drops of dish washing liquid, a squirt for lemon juice, hot water, shake intermittently for few minutes, rinse, shake out water with a colander, dry on newspaper overnight. It's cheap and all the dirt or lead residue gets flushed down the drain. I've been doing this for years.

Ok, here goes, I use Autosol metal polish. It comes in a toothepaste formula, picked it up at canadian tire on the cheap. because it is thick like toothpaste, I dilute with Mothers liquid carnuba wax cleaner. Everything from canadian tire. Just enough autosol (amount you would use to brush your teeth with), into the tumbler, and 2 squirts of the liquid wax cleaner, will help the liquifaction factor of the tumbling in crushed corn media, to dsitribute the polish all around.

Put brass in tumbler. Turn on...Leave until bras is shiny..

zTumblers are CHEAP..you can get one form Midsouth for $50 or so..I don't know why anyone would want to hand clean brass anymore:)

:agree: What he said!

I tried/used cheeep methods for yrs and finally bought a tumbler. Waste of time. Hand cleaning brass is a drag! :(

Go to a sandblasting place like the previous poster said. 20.00 for a 50 lb bag and I use VIM household cleaner. cheap and leaves your brass smelling like lemons.:dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

I have a tumbler and it works great and will still use it , But this post got me thinking so I figerd i must experiment with a couple of things :) dont know if it harms the brass or not though and mabey someone can tell me if it dose or not
I threw some white vinger and peroxide in a water bottle ,gave it a few shakes and it sure made clean brass............will this harm brass? I have some soaking in lemon juice right now..........

Like I said I am just trying for fun and will still use my tumbler , but that vineger and peroxide sure worked ..............

White vinegar by itself will get the brass really clean, especially if heated a bit. But….the acetic acid will etch the brass, don’t know if it will harm it or not. With any chemicals that are not intended for use with reloading brass I would be concerned with: a) possible unexpected changes to the brass itself, and b) possible unfavourable reaction of any remaining traces of said chemical with the powder charge or primer, especially over time in the loaded round.
