Brass cleaning

Hello,

I am relatively new to re-loading and I have a question about cleaning spent brass.

I see there are tumblers that use various types of medium, liquid cleaning methods and even seen some info on ultra-sonic cleaning.

On average I have 50 - 100 cases at any given time that need to be cleaned.
I am really not too concerned with how shiny the brass looks, of course shiny is good, but I just want to make sure when I clean it, it is clean.

I am using .308 Lapua and was just looking for pro's and cons to some or all of the methods.

Thanks for any tips / advice.

A standard vibratory cleaner with commercial dry media works fine for my purposes. Nothing fancy. Some hand tools like brushes and primer pocket cleaner is a good idea as well. These are inexpensive.

I agree,it works plenty good for me too. Got a Frankford Arsenal from P&D for about $65, and it does the job just fine particularly if you don't need huge capacity. Also, if you guys aren't aware, apparently you can buy walnut media or corncob media from pet store for a whole lot cheaper than gun shops. It's used for lizard litter, or so I've been told.

Lyman 1200 Pro tumbler $69.94 at Lebarons right now.

Use crushed walnut with a bit of brasso and NuFinish car wax added. Can be bought cheaper from welding shops than from a gun store. If you fail at the welding shop, Petsmart sells it as bird cage litter but it costs more to buy it that way.

Plastic media is still in the experimental phase for me. Corncob sometimes plugs up the necks on smaller cases.

Sonic cleaners and messing around with liquids just adds more to the work and cost. Forget about them.

You're done. You're welcome. The end.

I probably reload less than you and I use a cheap lyman tumbler. The main tumbling is done before decapping and resizing. Once I resize I do a short tumbling session to remove the lube.

X2 on walnut, easier to remove than corncob but it will plug up your primer flash hole. It is easily poked out with a piece of wire. Once done, I remove the brass one at a time and hold it against the inside of the vibrating bowl, 90% of the time it gets all the media out, even the flash hole.

lyman 1200 turbo tumbler + walnut media (from petsmart) + 1 capfull NuPolish (acadiantire)
