brass cost vs brass quality and hardness

Nothing wrong with Remington brass. As far as Federal brass goes, like 'boo says, even if it is on the soft side it's easily replaced. I have some older federal brass, (20-25 years ago) that does not seem as soft as the new stuff and is excellent brass. 300WM and .223. Might be something to look out for at gunshows if you can verify it's age.

Nosler does not use Norma for all their brass offerings, they also use Remington and Federal, perhaps other makers as well.Their 8mm Rem Mag and .350 Rem Mag brass are made by Remington, their .280AI brass and others are made by Norma. To the best of my knowledge(information from American shooters),their .308 brass is made by Federal. Nosler brass is preprepped and weighed and sorted, which is it's major advantage.Mur

Where does this info come from? Not doubting you, just curious.:)

I would also like to know who makes Hornady, and Nosler brass, and if they get some types from one source, and other types from elsewhere, exactly which is which.

I have a bunch of Nosler coming for 325 WSM and 270 Win, will weigh and measure them and inspect them closely. I would have bought Lapua or Norma but couldn't easily source it in Canada.

Nosler doesn't make any of their own brass of course, they out source all of it.There has been considerable conversation on a number of US shooting forums about who makes which Nosler brass(Nosler ain't saying!).I know that my very first box of Nosler .280AI brass had a number of cases headstamped Norma. In the case of some of their less popular chamberings 8mmMag,.350 Mag etc, no brass maker will set up to make cases that don't sell.Remington already makes these cases so it makes sense that Nosler would source them there. As I said the consensus on the forums that I frequent was that Nosler's .308 was made by Federal was mainly due to that fact that both cases are very soft.Look at the Norma list to see what they offer. They don't make a lot of what Nosler uses and Nosler is getting those cases elsewhere.Nosler cases are preweighed, sorted and champhered(ready to load),if you aren't sure who made them contact Nosler.I don't think you'll get a straight answer tho'! Can I give you 15 pieces of new 260 brass so you don't have to keep shooting that 1 piece you have over and over..................... FS

I Had a great laugh over this comment, fassteel. Laugh2
Actually, I have only 20 cases I have been working over to see how far I can get with them.
I have at least 250 NEW, unfired 260 Lapua cases here.
Regards, Eagleye.
