brass from a glock

Has anyone heard of issue's regarding brass fired from a Glock? I was told it leaves a bulge near the bottom due to the way the chamber is milled on a Glock that can cause problems for reloading if fired from another type of gun.

It seems to come up here but I have never seen it personally. I think the bulge is more of an urban myth. You FL size every time you reload so that should get you back to spec anyways. They do sell bulge busters but I can't see a use for it. Maybe someone else will have more insight.

Urban myth it is most assuredly not....

From what I have read here and there it seems Gen 1 Gen 2 and some Gen 3's have this issue while the newer Glock's apparently have more chamber support, With good dies and a trip thru my Lee FCD I have not had an issue reloading for my 10mm.

Urban myth? It is not uncommon to see hundreds of .40 S&W cases in the brass buckets at my range after the cops shoot there, all prominently displaying the "urban myth".

I run them through the regular size die and then they work in my CZ-75B just fine. It might be an issue if you were reloading for a Glock, as all that bulging and sizing has to be hard on the brass eventually.

I shoot a G22. I reload my brass over and over without a problem. Yes it has a bulge and one trip through your press should take that out. After a match the range brass is divided between the workers, much of it shot through Glocks. It gets reloaded and shot through many types of pistols. Seems to work just fine.
If your brass is in good shape the important factors are: lube your brass, reload to a reasonable power factor, use your press properly and ensure you don't get a double charge.

Glock bulge is no myth. If you try to reload some brass shot from a glock with a factory barrel, and shoot it in an aftermarket barrel like a Lone Wolf, you will get some FTF's because of the bulge right near the rim of the case.

Their is no FCD die that can resize this last little portion of the die. That's where Redding and Lee sell the bulge buster.

I have been de-bulging 40 brass for a buddy of mine that bought 1k of 1X 40 brass. He has a lone wolf barrel in his Glock 20. He was routinely getting 1 in 3 cases that would not properly fit in the tight chamber of the lone wolf barrel.

After we ran a bunch of the brass through my bulge buster, no more FTF's.

And oh ya, you sure know when a piece of brass has a bulge, you really feel the need to push hard on the press arm to force the brass through the bulge buster die and remove the glock bulge.

It's real and it can be a problem, depending on what gear your running, and where your brass came from.

So to confirm I'm shooting a Sig P226R in 9mm and just want to make sure that I don't have any problems reloading brass that may have been cycled through a Glock. I'm using a Dillon XL650 with Dillon dies.

Definitely a problem in some guns as mentioned above. I use Lee dies and they seem to size all the way down. One shooter i know, ground down his Dillon dies so the sizing ring goes all the way to the bottom.

The Lee Bulge Buster kit is another way to fix this... or just shoot a gun that isn't so picky...

I shoot two 9mm glocks and have not had this issue, but apparently it is a problem with the 40 cals. Not so much if reloading glock'd brass for a glock with a factory barrel but moreso for aftermarket barrels and guns other than glocks.

I have read that some folks use the hornady full length sizing dies as will as the EGW u-dies, and that these correct the glock bulge in 40 cal. The u die is a lee full length sizing die made to smaller dimensions.

I reload Glock-fired brass all the time. 9mm was never an issue. When I started reloading .40S&W I came across the Glock bulge discussion, and made myself a DIY Lee bulge buster using a Lee resize die. It worked well but required an extra step.

One day, I collected about 20 of glock-fired brass and reloaded these without using the bulge buster, just the regular Hornady sizing/depriming die in my LnL. All of these chambered fine in my P226 and XDM-40. I then fired them with no issues. So, no more bulge-busting step for me. :D

I haven't noticed any bulges in my empties from my Glock 17, but I have seen it in the Glock 22 spent casings. 40SW is a higher pressure cartridge, with an unsupported chamber, it's inevitable. That said, full length re-sizing should solve all your problems.

I have about 2k .40sw brass upstairs that I've run through my g22. all bulged. Had a friend (Calgary police service, uses G22 as sidearm) warn me to never ever ever reload it.

I called bs. Did some looking around and chatting with experienced reloaders. From what I've been told, full lenght re-sizing will get rid of the bulge, and as long as your not reloading to max pressures your should avoid any kabooms.

My 2 cents from my recent personal debate over what to do with mine.

I've heard it called glocked brass but have never experienced it myself. Some dude on youtube has a video named glocked brass or similar too that. He runds it through a sizer die of some sort. I've always used lee carbide dies and have never had any problems with my brass.

The Dillon die sucks at resizing them properly, and I have ground mine down as far as possible and still no luck... :(

If I use my hornady resizing die I have no issues... YMMV

I've just begin to process all of my 3rd gen g22 once fired brass and noticed the same very very slight bulge. I've ordered a Lee Bulge Buster... I've heard about 10% - do not reload as opposed to about 90% reload once re-sized but reload once and not with max loads... I'm tempted to give it a shot. The brass doesn't look stressed very much. The bulge is super super slight.

paininthe10 ... I need to PM you. Are you able to enable your pm's or if I provide you with an email, are you able to communicate that way? Thanks

I have no idea what gen mine is, it's about 7 years old, a 22C and it doesn't bulge them at all.

I never really noticed the bulges in mine until I ran them through a resizing die. The bulge can't be felt really, it's just a slight distortion on very shiny brass. Most guys swear by the GXR / Bulge Buster while others are skeptical of it
