Yup and the BATF hangs one fellow from ebay up by his nads as an example to all others, and guess what comes next, no firearm anything on ebay.
here's some good advice if you've pulled it off and gotten lucky so far.

The exporter cannot comply with US export law without submitting a Canadian import permit with the export permit application. Unless there a Cdn permit was submitted with the order the US export permit will not be issued. So to say that it was assumed that the US seller was in compliance is a non starter. Such a transaction is either taking advantage of a seller's ignorance, or participationg in violation of US law.

I dunno, I've ordered several items from Brownells that required an export permit. Such a permit was obtained, and I was not asked to supply an IIC

"Do you really think the ATF or any police organization is going to set up a sting operation for a $40."

Under the forty dollar test, why would anyone risk the sting operation for something costing net 40 dollars. In the real world, not the fantasy world in which a bullet with a fractionally different meplat is incredibly more desireable than one made at the Bullet Barn, but in the real world, who risks what is at stake just to get the shooter equivalent of the Barbie doll special bridal edition?

As shooters on the US border with our noses on the candy store window, but not able to get in, we really need to develop some resistance to wanting crap that is just cool fluff but doesn't really change anything. Otherwise we end up miserable and possibly in jail.

Ditto. I don't pretend to understand...

Regardless, an export permit is the responsibility of, guess who? The exporter. It is up to them to request a import permit from you if it is required on their end. As an importer, how can you be held responsible for non-compliance by the exporter? It doesn't make sense logically. You offer to assist on your end to allow them to do what they need to comply with the law on their end. That is all the responsibillity you bear as importer.

That said, I have declined ordering a couple of items because it was clear the seller had no intention of following the law in his jurisdiction. Those were no brainers. But in a case like Prosper's, you have been assured that the proper permits have been obtained, yet nothing furthur is required from you. From what I read here, that may or may not be proper, but I don't pretend to be an expert at US export law. I'll leave that to the Americans who are selling the items to figure out. If they assure me they are in compliance with their law, who am I to argue?

Lefty ####

Grow up. If you can't express yourself better than that take an English course. Ebay doesn't sell firearms due in part to the goofy US federal laws regarding firearm sales stateside and the US tort laws. The latter involves third party liability issues when a gun is used in a crime or where injury takes place from the misuse of a firearm. They aren't the only major company to avoid firearm sales.

Max Power: Bang on it is indeed the sellers obligation. As has been pointed out by more than one the US export permit is not dependent on receipt of a Canadian IMport permit. This only occurs when a Canadian Import permit is required. No such documentation is required for reloading componenets in amounts we are discussing here.

I have a confession to make....:(

I went to a LE match in the US.
A few of the shooters asked me if I reloaded....
I said "yes"
They proceeded to give me all their once fired Hornady TAP .308 brass.
Lots of it.
I took it home.

Thinking back I hope it wasn't some kind of set up....

Yes, some people do buy stuff in the US, and drive or mail it across.
Yes, they got away with it so far.
But, just becuase you are fond of peeing in a public pool and have not yet been caught, it doesnt make it right.

If you have brought back stuff from the US without proper permits, etc. ,

WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT!!

You can't be that paronoid. With tons of drugs going North & South for the most part undetected we have all settled into the ultimate conspiracy theory.

Actually fellows the ATF, US Border Patrol and Homeland Security have all quit chasing drug dealers, terrorists and people smugglers in an effort to halt the illicit movement of .45acp cases out of the country. I heard from a very good stranger on the internet that the RCMP even chased down some clown who put a awning on his RV Stateside. Guy might get life!

What nonsense. What list and how? This is how internet rumours become fact. This comment fall s to fear mongering at best, idle gossip at worst.

If you don't think the U.S. keeps track of stuff like this you are SADLY mistaken.I have friends who work in the Customs industry who deal with the controlling U.S. authorities and the U.S. does "keep a list".

If you don't have a current U.S. Export permit from the U.S. State Dept, you just admitted to violating U.S. Export regulations with this statement:

As a boolit hobby caster myself and friends in the US regularily send samples of boolits we have cast across the border for each to try out. All are declared on the export/import form attached to the packages and all go back and forth without seizure. Canada Customs occassionally opens a package to ensure there is no commercial value in side and none of my friends have ever had a package opened by US Customs. This also includes brass which we trade back and forth 9MM/.303 south; .45acp North.

You and your buddies have been lucky so far.

For all CGN members, if you are violating U.S. Export regulations, DO NOT POST ABOUT IT HERE ON CGN!!!!!!!!!!

If you continue to do so you will be removed from this site as the CGN policy is the Import/Export laws of both Canada AND the U.S. MUST be obeyed when posting info on this site.

I hope I have made myself quite clear.

You can't be that unaware of my sarcasm....;)

I'm about as paranoid over taking their once fired, agency issued brass as they are about accepting my cuban cigars....:D

It's quite funny.... Sworn officers of the law. Local, State and Federal all hangin' out after a match drinkin' beer and smokin' contraband cigars...
Oh, the corruption:D
