Brass Opinions

Based on my experience I would rate them
Laupa
Norma
Hornady
I know some of you are saying what is Hornady doing there, but in my use of it in my 25/06 and 22/250 it worked great and gave very long brass life. JME

Not a big fan of Bertram Brass so far but it was the only 50-140 brass I could find anywhere. Haven't shot any yet, in large part because I have had to work down the rim which was too thick to chamber on about 60-70% of them. Pretty irritating as it was multiple times more expensive than the next most expensive brass I've purchased.

I have not tried to “compare” different brands of brass but use Lapua whenever I can. It seems to give a respectable number of reloads with consistent results.

So far I like everything but Hornady hahaha! Barns is good! But my choice for new virgin brass is Norma!!
I came to the conclusion that euro calibers need euro brass!!

That is neat idea, but I do not think that is how modern selling and making works - as I previously posted on CGN - I bought 300 x RUAG USA brass - turns out the parent RUAG company is in Switzerland - and the brass all has head stamp MFS - which is a brass maker in Hungary. So, where was that RUAG USA brass made? By whom? Sort of makes me wonder about some above about Lapua, Norma, etc. - I know from other items in my shop - no longer made where that brand reputation came from - who says brass is still made where the seller is from? For all I know, Lapua or Norma or whatever might be also made in Hungary?? Is apparently common to know where it is sold from - these days does not actually mean much about where it is made, or by whom.

^^^ for sure one is never 100% sure of origine these days!
Anyway, talking about brass, I need some in 7x65r if anyone knows of a source!!

Lapua, Peterson, Norma, Nosler. I’d use others for plinking or hunting, but for any kind of precision shooting this is my preference.

Wasn’t impressed with ADG brass. It was okay, but not all it's hyped up to be, and definitely not worth the cost.

Had bad brass from a number of manufacturers even lapoo.

Most worst has been from federal haven’t bought any new for time so can’t say about recently they all seem to have good runs and bad.

I've had some range PPU with small flash holes. That caused havoc. But that was a while ago, the last batches have been OK. It goes by NNY, too. And I think some other name. For being sheer cheap, I had some Winchester 303 that lasted forever. If I annealed, I still would be using those 50. I won't say how often I used them, it would be too embarrassing . It was used in a P-14, so the loads were 308 level stiff.

I've had FC brass that were only good three times, but it was free.Primer pockets loosing. So what can you say.

I was prepping some Winchester 26-06 for 6.5-06, of the 29 cases, 8 had necks that varied more than .001, 2 had necks that varied more than .002. For hunting brass , it's good enough. I'll use the .001 brass. I don't know if it's red or blue bag.

I wasn’t going to say anything on this but here goes of the brands I have recent direct experience with:

Match rifle use:
Lapua
Winchester
Federal

All bought within the last two years.

Hunting rifle:
PPU
Federal

Avoid:
Nosler - I have had very inconsistent results with this stuff even after fireforming and neck sizing. Good enough for hunting for most I expect.

Honourable mentions:
Star line I have used for less common pistol brass and found it quite adequate. Can’t comment on bottleneck rifle stuff.

Nothing wrong with your findings ! RJ

So I'm going to break the ##### out of this entire discussion. Believe it or not, I don't care for lapua brass. I have 3 precision rifles and many good shooting hunting rifles and not one of them shoots better with lapua brass.

223/5.56 I prefer federal or ivi
308 & 6.5cm I prefer Peterson or hornady

Most other rifles I have seen good performance with Peterson, federal & hornady brass. Don't get me wrong, lapua brass is top notch however, the only rifle that gets straight lapua brass is my sako trg 338lm

Unless it's a less common chambering I toss all S&B brass in my scrap bin
