Brass Options: Lapua, Peterson, Alpha, ADG, other premium... compare, comment

Peterson is good brass and it has been available for years. I was getting mine from Western Metal a few years ago.
There's one issue though: brand new, the primer pockets are rather tight. I broke a Lee hand-primer on my first box.
Nowadays I am using small primer Lapua brass in 308 'cause you know, large primers are scarce.
Lee handprimers are pretty well known for breakage. I broke two handles and broke off the top of a body, just below the shellholder swell. Also used about 4 linkages, I still have enough pcs to assemble 3 or 4 of them. That was over probably 40k rounds or so though. Wouldn't run to blaming the brass on that, I had all different makes.

No not as good. Capacity is reduced in an attempt to make head stronger and brass is definitely softer. A load fine in a Lapua case will deform - re ejector mark - marking flattened in a Petersen. No not the same. Alpha is in the same boat with extra issues.

you'll have to reduce powder charge in brass that has smaller case capacity. In my 6.5 Creed, Alpha holds 50.8grs h2O, Lapua holds 52.3grs

Hornady 54.0 h2O
Sako 51.5 h2O
Starline 52.2 h2O

On small cartridge such as the 6 Dasher - reduced capacity is a problem. I got into the 6 Dasher to get better performance - more fps - not less or equal to 6 BR.

I purchased some 223 Remington Lapua brass, this last weekend, got home and opened the factory sealed box, only to discover there are only 99 cases, 1 friggin case short. Seriously annoying. I should have just stuck with starline brass.
Nothing to do with Lapua..all their case has 101…check with your dealer..he screwed you up. If you can’t make the difference between the best brass and Starline..stick with Starline..
