My AR malfunctioned today in a way that I've never seen before. I had a casing stovepipe on its way out and after clearing that, this happened. I could barely move the bolt at all. A guy I work with told me what this type of malfunction is called and I found Youtube videos on how to clear it. It's an easy fix, but I hope it didn't damage anything.

And this is what the round looked like...

Hmm, I have had that happen in my Norinco, but it usually happens with empty casings failing to be ejected, not full rounds. Mine didn't seem to damage anything other than a few small marks inside the receiver. I fixed it with one of those extractor upgrade kits that cost about $20. Fixed it and haven't had any similar issues since, hopefully yours is as small an issue.

Is your Norc a 10.5" by chance??

That is a very weird stoppage... After reading about it though there's a few things that people have mentioned could cause it. Supposedly the magazine lips didn't do their job (seriously they have one job) and the round pops up out the mag and gets wedged. Watched another video on PMAGS, and even tried it myself, if you slap the bottom too firmly rounds literally pop out...

Glad to hear you cleared it, and damage should only be cosmetic... Soft metal vs harder metal, the harder metal will usually win.

Love your ejection port cover dude.

Had similar happen once with a brand new C7 when first issued out West. It was eventually traced back to the ejector spring being the wrong length... a new spring/part number followed. In my case it was an empty, and it jammed onto the gas tube. It took an hour to clear it. Can't open the recievers because the carrier is blocking it. Can't use cocking handle to push the carrier/bolt out of the way, cause the casing is jamming the cocking piece in place. We ended up grabbing a large screw driver, and prying back the bolt carrier from the magazine well. Then while that was held back with stick, screwdriver to pry the case off the gas tube.

The spring was wrong length because they rounded up the number, after converting the Imperial specs to Metric... or at least that was supposedly the explanation... no idea if true. It was not a good introduction to the C7... but many years later, my accumulated experience with it led me to believe its one of the most reliable infantry rifles out there. I became a believer.

There is a reason why you don't slap your magazines into the rifle. TAP TUG or PUSH PULL is how you ensure it is seated, not slapping it like it owes you money.

Alot of people dont ealize this...even if your bolt is half way back...u can still separate the upper...take the front pivot pin loose first then the rear take down then slide the whole upper forward

Never had it happen to any of my AR's but had it occur a few times when I first scoped an M14 (empty brass though). In either case it is easily cleared.

I had a very similar stoppage on a colt service C8. But it was during full auto fire. Easily cleared and in my case thw Weapons tech tryed to pin it on the extractor and extractor spring but I suspected that other issues existed. Unfortunately I never found out what the problem was because they took it and gave me a new one. Id look into getting that thing to a gun plummer.
