I just started to go through a bunch of once fired brass that ive been saving up and found 8 rounds where the neck of the brass was cracked. The brass is all the cheapo winchester 45gr jhp for my .223. I know for sure all this brass has only been fired once. Is this normal, or is it just cheap brass? Ive just started handloading and this is going to be my first batch.

IMHO, the latest Winchester brass is crap. I won't use it at all.
I use Remington and Lapua for regular cartridges and GRAF for the unusual stuff.
It's fine for pistols but their rifle brass is to hard.
Probably has something to do with cost cutting or in the case of the .223, maybe milspecs require it to be harder???
Just getting back into it I cannot comment, but many reloaders have told me to stay away from any winchester brass made in the past three years or so. The quality they say is not there like it always was.
I was told to save my pennies and buy lapua which is what I am doing. I bought some so far in 280 and 243 and yes sir it is very nice brass

My apologies the 8 should be a 6. I bought 243 and 260. My 280 brass is remington and I think I still have some Norma somewhere that was bought at Sinclairs in the US.
Sorry I would be excited also if I seen Lapua listing 280 brass.
I hear you. Don't know why they don't make even 270 strange.

I don't mind Imperial brass at all but you right that brass is at least 20 years old so it must be anneled first before use.
