Brass Stacker scope mounts

It HAS arrived !!

First impression... feels SOLID.

Installation will occur (with pics) this Sunday !! LER scope will be installed next month at the cottage (once I'm on holidays).

You can still use the iron sights thx to the peep hole.

Is it just me or does this look like a Klingon Bird of Prey ??

I saw this but i have an archangel on mine, i think i would have to drill a hole for that recoil lug. Are you putting this in the standard stock or doing a custom archangel ? I bought the ACE Equipment one off Ebay/Amazon for 40$ tried it and the bolts came loose after 12 rounds. Was going to junk it, then decided to drill the original holes out, Home Depot trip from some better screws with nuts and washers and will giver' another go before i drop the coin for this one or the low pro . Wish you luck and i wanna see how yours turns out brother :) cheers

Couldn't wait... started the installation this morning.

Step 1. Remove the barreled action.

Step 2. Observe orientation of recoil bolt (has a flat notch facing forward)

Step 3. Remove said bolt.

Step 4. Insert new bolt

That's as far as I got.

More to come. LOL

Make sure new "recoil bolt" has good surface connection with recoil lug. If it doesn't then your rear sight will become new recoil lug and I think it might break those brass screws.

Thx for the advice.

I compared the original recoil bolt with the new one I installed and they look similar.

In fact, the new bolt was a smidge tighter going in and the original bolt slid right out once I removed the bolt... which would lead me to believe that the new bolt will do its job quite well.

Any comments on the above ??

I'd use thin layer of lipstick or something like that on flat part of cross bolt and see how much of it transferred on recoil lug. Do your best to eliminate any play of recoil lug in the stock.

edit. consider bedding your stock. at least recoil lug well.

That's a great suggestion.

I use a similar trick when I am installing new doors. I "lipstick" the latch and the deadbolt to see where it transferred onto the door frame. Lipstick transfer shows exactly where I need to drill.

Well, Sunday's installation was a wash...

Forgot it was Father's Day... DUH... and we ended up doing tons of family stuff... which was great... but the scope mount sat forlorn. :(

Well, here's a development I did not expect... since I had the barrel off in order to switch out the recoil bolt... I decided I would strip & refinish the stock.

Honestly... it really needs it... the shellac is flaking off.

I also suspect Ivan slapped on some extra shellac at the last refurb, which made the forward end of the stock and the barrel cover really look like "govno" (Russian for "crap").

So... I'm picking up some Circa 1850 during lunch today. This will allow me to strip the shellac without touching the various cartouches on the stock. I'll be refinishing the stock with BLO.
