Ive noticed for a while now, but forgot to ask the question, its regarding my .270, of all the winchester supreme shells ive fired, the brass always has a line in the brass >10mm from the base of the case..

Never thought too much of it until now, in firing some Winchester super x ammo, its also showing these signs in the brass...

Whats it mean??

cheers
WL

its only with the winchester brass, nikel plated an the standard super x, where as the federals havnt got the signs.

from what ive read its only really an issue if i were to reload these cases?

the marks are not as bad as in the pic

Look in the picture; the fisrt ring is still present on the second picture and actually is the point where the base because wall. The separation ring always appears a bit higher, so you end up with a 2-ring case, the first one being normal. Using the very simple paper clip "feeler" trick is the easiest and less expensive way to check you cases.

Are you shooting factory ammo? If handloads, what is your load?
Is this your Remington 700?
Checked some of my fired brass from yesterday and while mine look similar to yours. it appears to me the case head, that 10 mm would not expand in any case.

Case head separation can be a sign of too much headspace. Upon firing, the case walls expand and temporarily weld against the chamber walls, and the base of the cartridge moves back against the face of the bolt.
