OK, just bought a 7mm rem mag on here, but I can't get fl sized brass to chamber and needs to be forced out. I'm not a newbie to loading, but this has me really stumped! Any help out there?
rcbs dies.

I would shoot factory ammo, measure headspace after firing, then I’d have my headspace measurements.

Full size a fired case, double check headspace measurements, insure myself a 2 thou shoulder set back, life is good.

Unless 7mm rem mag grows fat in the rear end?
Wasn’t it 300 win mag and the likes that had an extra step for that?
This part am not sure I only reload short actions at the moment...

It can be a "thing" with belted brass that has been fired in another chamber - the area perhaps a 1/16" ahead of the belt does not appear to resize, even with small base dies - or if it re-sizes, it immediately springs back. Your jiffy marker will tell you. I had to buy a Larry Willis collet die to address that. I also found that another RCBS belted cartridge die was smaller, right in front of the belt, and would squish down my brass without touching any other part of it.

I haven't tried any factory ammo [I load everything I shoot]. I'll try painting the brass before I move on. Thanks guys!

Yeah I get that, I'm like that with one of my rifles. If you've got a buddy who shoots factory ammo in the same caliber you should see if you can borrow a round just to try.

It's possible that the cases have ailment of "case bulge," just above the belt. If so, then the Larry Willis Collet Die will fix it. My son had this issue with his 7mm STW and after utilizing the collet die it corrected the problem, however it is a process. Full length sizing first, followed by the collet die. Unlike case lube, a generous amount of Imperial Wax is required for the Willis system. Keep us in the loop.

Get out the calipers and check all your resized dimensions.

Bump the shoulder back a bit more ( most likely the issue ). One old fellow suggested shaving the Shellholder back a little to allow the case to go further into the die when I had a similar issue reloading for a friend’s rifle. Bumping the shoulder harder worker for my situation.

Send resized cases and the die to RCBS. They will check the die and replace if needed or they will build you a die.

Get rifle headspace checked and adjusted.

Good luck.

Thanks Track! That seems to be the issue. I just ordered one[almost 200.00CND] You guys are the best. I'll let you know in a month, how it works. Seems to work with all belted magnum calibers. Cheers, Jim

Larry Willis must love these kind of threads. How did anyone ever load belted magnums before Larry Willis came along. He also sells snake oil and used cars.

The Willis tool s one of those things that seem to polarize people.

Another is a Space Shuttle. I’ve never needed a Effing space shuttle; therefore nobody does. ;)

Thing with the Willis tool is it does just one thing, and it does it better than anything. In some cases it is the only thing that will work.

Some time ago I had bought previously fired Rem 7mm Mag brass from CGN - managed to pick out 85 or so Remington brand. I was able to reform and trim to make into 7x61 S&H brass. Not a one would chamber into the Schultz and Larsen rifle - jiffy marker showed they were hanging up about last 1/16" or so right in front of the belt - had been Full Length sized, twice, with the Herter's brand 7x61 dies that I had. Pulled out other dies to try to come up with some solution - those 7x61 brass just plunked right in to the belt on my RCBS 338 Win Mag die. But stopped a good 1/2" proud in my RCBS 458 Win Mag die. So, I ran those brass through a third time - this time into that 458 Win Mag die - it was "tighter" just in front of the belt - at least enough that every single brass would now chamber, whereas none would before.
I went ahead and bought the Larry Willis die - read instructions and can not find Imperial wax around here, so bought a tube on Extreme Pressure (EP) grease from NAPA store and a can of acetone to clean up. Still sitting here, not yet used. Was able to come into some proper Norma brand 7x61 ammo and brass and an RCBS sizing die set that have given me no further grief. When I want to get to it, I have about 150 previously fired Weatherby brand 300 Weatherby brass that will not go into my M1917's chamber - so running that batch through the Larry Willis die will pay for that die, when I do that. I suspect that I would get the same result running them through my "tight" 458 Win Mag die...
