I recently fired some old PRVI 7X57 rounds off in my FN49. I went to start the reloading process with this brass and found it would not slide into the shellholder. Some of my reloaded rounds made from new brass that I fired off were OK. It appears this brass is not as wide or deep in the channel by the rim. Strange.

I have 2 Lee #2 shellholder....one will fit all my 6BR brass.....the other will fit MOST of my 6BR brass. Shellholders, unfortunately, are not created equal even from the same company.

Did you shoot it in the rain????

Wet rounds have excessive thrust rearward because the water won't let the case side walls grab the chamber. The brass base gets pounded in the bolt face crushing the case groove shorter and expanding its diameter so it won't fit in the shell holder. You might see ejector marks extruded from the base as well. Primers usually fit looser.

It was not fired in the rain. A new, unfired PRVI round exhibits the same thing. I also tried a new unfired federal round and it's just fine. I tried two different #2 shellholders. Which is the next biggest shellholder?

I have a Lee #2 shellholder that will not accomodate some brands of standard head sized brass, PRVI being notable among them. I keep a Lyman equivalent to use when the problem pops up.

Well it appears that this is a brass problem. Other than turfing 34 cases I guess I have two choices, modify one of my #2 shellholders to work or get the next biggest size. Will the next biggest size work on these cases that are fired in a military semi? I suspect a pretty loose chamber makes these cases difficult to resize so the shellholder can't slip.

I had trouble with 9.3x62 privi brass. the #2 lee shellholder was very tight so I ended using a #3 rcbs holder which was better. If you dont' have it available you can always go to the #5 Lee which will be a little loose but workable....just make sure its centered when working the ram.

I picked up a #3 Lee shellholder which is slightly larger than the #2 and it worked fine. Those PRVI factory loads have sealed primers that pushed up the decapping pin on the die when I resized them. Tough brass slightly out of spec and glued primers. A real treat to reload. I think those rounds are 30 years old. Needed to be trimmed back a bunch too.
