Well the local gun show here proved to be a good one again for me as far as Mausers go. I picked up this very nice, all matching 1908 with the matching bayonet for a very reasonable price. Not quite mint but close, it has a few dings in the wood and a bit of tarnish to the metal. The only 'major' issue is the screw that threads into the rear sight and helps retain the handguard is broken off. I'll have to source a new one and remove the broken portion. The 1908's are one of the nicest milsurps you'll ever see when in mint condition. The fit and finish is unbelievable.

That is fancy! Perfect condition. Must have been store in the perfect temp and humidity. Metal perfect, wood perfect. Must have costed you a bit. Did you see any FR8's. I am looking for one.

Looks like one of the wrappped , unissued ones that Century brought in in the 70's. Did you get a muzzle guard and a factory test target with it?

Sadly the muzzle cover and target were missing. I almost didn't get the scabbard with it as well. It was actually on a K98k bayonet at the same table but luckily I noticed it wasn't correct for a k98k and upon inspection found it to be serialized to the Brazilian.

You have excellent taste!

I just F**KING LOVE these rifles.

They are the very best milsurps out there, unfortunately, or should I say fortunately not a lot of people realize this.
Good for us :)

Myself I got the following rifles in new unissued condition with mostly matching bayos:
1891 Argentine
1908 Brazilian
1909 Argentine
1909 Peruvian
98/29 Persian
1935 Brazilian
and a few more...

the fit and finish of those rifles is just like you said: UNBELIEVABLE!

You have an outstanding collection Polaris! Once you buy one of these its hard not to want more. I hope to upgrade a few more of my South American Mausers to unissued ones down the road.

You will have no problem doing so, they even show up here on the EE from time to time.

Yeah, they are the best kept secret... so shhhhhhh!!

I still need a 1908 and a Peruvian... let's not raise too much attention to these gems! ;)

Beautiful 1908. The hand guard is held on by a clasp around the barrel just forward of the receiver so I don't think you need to worry about the screw ;).

I had a 1908 that was beaten up a bit and had a mis-matched bolt but the action was still smooth as glass.

I have a couple of 1908's but no matching bayonets.

I have the following in VG to Exc condition
1. 1891 Argentine
2. 1908 Brazilians
1. 1909 Argentine

1. Venezuelan M24/30
1. Persian Iranian Model 29

I didn't hear anyone mention the sling.
