Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with this rifle? Thinking of purchasing one as a general purpose bush/hunting/farm-varmint rifle, wondering what to expect? I picked it because it's on the 98 action, is shorter, and takes 7.62x51 instead of the ever increasing in price 7.92x57 I see in so many other mauser 98's.

plus I think it's a really ###y mauser variant haha, who doesn't love a flash suppressor? Also would like to know about this rifles rear sights if possible? having a lot of trouble finding info online, doesn't look like the standard graduated mauser rear sight...?

The flash hider is mostly for show.

They kick like mules.

The rear sight is regulated for Brazilian military loads which are slightly milder than Nato standard.

The rifles were made in Brazil at Itajuba. They were made as a stop gap training rifle to get the troops used to the H&K sightng picture. They require a special bayonet. If you can control your flinch, they are quite accurate.

When you take the rifle down to check it over and clean it up, you will see that the barrel was made from a cut down 30-06 chambered barrel. Not a problem at all, just a bit of a heads up so you are aware it's correct.

I like my M968, it will kick but I like the sights. I can't see the dam little sights on the K98s. Those young guys must have had good eyesight to see them.
I have had three or four over the years, and missed one at the Truro show for less than $300.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a good fit for the needs, however is 650 too mich for one even though the bore is in quite good condition?

Condition is everything, next comes desirability and rarity.

If the rifle is pristine, then IMHO, $650 would be top dollar and probably $300 to high, considering the condition they are normally found in.

I'm guessing you're looking at the rifles on JP's site?

Good people to deal with, you won't be disappointed with the service.

At $650 retail be sure it's what you want cause it'll be tough to move it out the door again for what you paid for it.
