I will be purchasing a new rimfire rifle in the near future (Ruger 10/22). Since this will be my first semi-auto rimfire rifle I was wondering what should be done to break the firearm in correctly. Are there certain steps that should be taken before firing it for the first time etc.?

on a rim fire not that i know of , your best bet would to be clean it real good befor you go out the first time , oil it , then maybe after the first 100 shots , or befor you put it away. clean it and oil it

A good cleaning before you start shooting it won't hurt. Try to keep track (roughly) of how much ammo you burn until it gets gross or starts acting up.

Then in the future you will have a rough idea how many you can put through before it might give you grief.

Clean it and shoot it partner. It's a factory 10/22.

Those benchrest guys have special "breaking in procedures", but the thing is, none of them do it the same way twice, besides; those benchresters are all mega-superstitious.

seriously, Superstitious like catholics from the 15th century, and they can all come up with long convoluted explanations why it's not superstition, it's "science", including the lucky shirt they wear.
