"Breaking In" shotgun

The Benelli Nova and Supernova will shoot any factory 12g shotshell from 2 3/4" to 3 1/2". This includes slugs, buckshot, lead and steel. Benelli doesn't recommend shooting steel shot through the full choke though. Stick with the Mod or IC choke and you will be safe to fire anything.
As far as cleaning goes, I run a boresnake through it once or twice after hunting or going to the range, and wipe any dirt or water off the exterior. I find the matte finish on the Benelli barrel is very corrosion resistant, especially around sal####er, compared to other brands I have owned.
I don't think you need to worry about breaking in your Benelli, and I doubt you will ever wear it out.

I've put at least 1000 rds through my Supernova, with about half of those being 3" or 3 1/2" hunting loads, but I havent noticed any change in trigger feel. I find my trigger is fairly light and smooth, at least for a shotgun. If yours feels unusually heavy or rough maybe there is a problem or it just needs a good cleaning.
As far as cleaning with swabs and brushes goes, I would say use whatever you like, I just use the boresnake because it is easy and I am lazy. With the chrome lined bore on the Benellis you could probably clean the bore once a season and not have any problems. I just like playing with my guns so I clean them more often then they really need.
